Italian women?
That's probably more of an admitted prejudice on my part. Most conservative christians I know tend to be really pushy when it comes to their religion, often using the same rhetoric about condemnation and using it as an excuse to shun other people, often using quotes out of Leviticus as an excuse to hate others, even though Jesus explicitly said "love your enemies"... and this subset of Christianity is what turns many people off to it. If Christianity was known for its more mainstream members rather than the fundamentalists, there would not be as many athiests in this world...

Its like potheads, you never know how many are out there unless you become one for a while - and realize that the 'huh...wha's and stereotypical bakeheads are the exception rather than the rule. Same with Christians, even with Seventh Day Adventists, when a pushy coworker talked my roommate into bringing me there - the guy who talked us into going was the only person there who was really like that, a couple (literally) of other coworkers who went to that church; we never heard a peep out of them about religion. IMO if someone is religious and they want to evangelize, lead by example and explain when someone asks "You have a lot going for yourself, what's making it happen?" - I'm not one of those people myself I'll admit, but I have a lot more respect for Christians who are like that; and I find they're the silent majority.
Then again, I'd say for myself - as an end result of life's learning and experiments thus far I'm spiritual rather than religious. Seems like the church has no trouble with adolescents and adults leaving, if anything its healthier that way just because people need to escape the grips of what they're brought up in (in my case Roman Catholicism) to see what's really out there and reconcile the ideas to reality; I may go back but it'll be on my terms rather than someone else's. I care a lot about bottom line truth though, care about the answers, and won't mess with it unless I'm pretty sure I want to go in that direction or want my kids raised that way.
And unlike most conservative christians I have no problem with that. I don't try to be the self-proclaimed "God's instrument of wrath on Earth", since 1) He is omnipotent, and should he wish to inflict wrath he should be able to on his own without any of our help, and 2) There's no guarantee that such a course of action is what God wants to take. I believe that in the end, all things will be reconciled to God, regardless of their position in life. Sure, I can accept that Jesus as the one who controls who gets into heaven, but I reject the conservative tenet that makes Jesus appear as the heavenly "bouncer". In the gospels, Jesus never turned away anyone who came to him, so why should it be any different after this life? It's more like Morpheus saying "I can open the door, but you must choose to go through it."
In any case, to try and get back on topic, I think that the OP should read a bit of this. By all means, look for someone of the Christian faith such as yourself, but don't limit yourself to the conservative wing thereof. Liberal and moderate people that profess their faith as "Christian" are still christians nonetheless.
If the OP is like most US Evangelical Christians and is a fervent supporter of the GOP and the Italian woman (from Italy) he finds is like most Italians they are going to be very politically incompatible. 70% of Italians supported Obama. This is a higher than France BTW. Generally speaking, US Evangelical Christians aren't highly regarded in Europe as they are too closely tied with what people consider bad about the US, especially anything connected with George Bush.
Just because two different groups of people are both conservative Christians doesn't mean that they share the same worldview.
Besides I suspect a very traditional, very conservative Italian girl would be hesitant to marry outside of her cultural group.
To the OP, I'd say that if Christian faith is important than just look around until you find someone you are compatible with and have chemistry with instead of having a fetish for one particular group. You're just on to the path of disillusionment here.
ToadOfSteel, I must disagree at a slight point, you said that if the fundamentalists were less common there would be less atheists, I disagree, plenty of atheists I know aren't atheists because of fundamentalist christians, they are atheist because they prefer to work out the world with facts and logic rather than faith, they think that god doesn't exist because of how the world is, not because of certain fundamentalists, just clearing a slight problem I saw with your theory
