I'd just love to have a girl to be with...

Yeah... that's pretty much how I feel. The last time I remember being happy on Valentine's day was when I was 6. I was stuck at home with chicken pox, and the boy I had a crush on brought me teddy bears.

Nothing good since.

On with the bitterness!

What's better than the company of a true friend? :)

Well, I actually have some hope of enjoying Valentine's Day this year, given the shocking development that a girl accepted an invitation to go out with me the other day. Which would be a first, since the only other times I've received cards on that day have either been from female schoolfriends years ago, or a co-worker who was clearly trying to make me feel better (but missed the point that I'd feel horrible when I discovered that I was only getting pity-cards).

I'm not getting my hopes up too high, though...

Being single on valentine's is a good excuse to buy yourself all the things you would like............and lots of chocolate. I probably will not buy myself flowers, that could be strange

I once got a card that was 3' x 2'.........delivered by courier. I got so flustered that I never called the girl back. I realized that if I sit and sing love songs to a girl all night long there will be consequences :? My next mission is get the object of my affection to sit still for long enough so I can sing her some songs.......but I am still failing :)

I actually do not read much at all into valentine's, because it will get you down when you are focussing on your own loneliness.

Haven't liked valentines day since kindergarten when they forced us to give everyone in class a card. Didn't want to give cards to Billy, Bobby, and Timmy. Didn't want to give cards to most of the girls, either. And definitely didn't want to give a card to my teacher - woof!

Like your avatar, Zonder.

Even though I may not even be single for this V-Day I'd still dread it then. I'm just a bit of a skinflint to be frank, and also lack imagination on slushy presents to give someone. In the sense that I lack imagination to do anything but something aspergically generic, so I feel I may as well do nothing. Otherwise I let the day pass me by. It's a bit Western, y'know.

Yeah, Valentines is annoying because I always end up feeling sorry for myself. Especially when everyone around me is comparing all the roses and things they got.

Thank God I'm out of school and uni this year so at least I won't be around other people.

I would send you flowers... you have a quality most women lack... that of actually acknowledging that I exist (and not just my brain, either...)

Thanks Aalto,

It is an 1830s daguerreotype from Philadelphia. Yours is cool - looks like a Japanese studio portrait from about 1910.

I don't put much stock in things like this, I won't get any presents or do anything romantic. It's dumb anyway.

I will probably buy myself some discount chocolates after valentines day when everything is on sale. :D

And maybe a teddy bear!

Wow, that makes it more incredible. I wasn't sure wherever it would've been one or a more recent, arty photo. His looks tricked me, I suppose. All I really know is that mine's one from old Japan, just one of my hobbies is trawling the internet for old photographs.

It is here. I think there should be a "Post your antique photos" thread because several people seem to collect them.

I'll have to start one up one day. You inspired me to go on another photo-hunt and I happened to stumble upon the exact same picture of him! Thank you.
