Astro signs

I think you should flick randomly through a horoscope book and read a horoscope without checking if it matches your birthdate. I think you will be surprised how many horoscopes you will find that will match a great deal of your personality. I have done this on friends, read them the wrong horoscope and people who believe in that stuff always say "wow that is so true". Horoscopes are made very generic and that is why so many people think they are accurate.
My individual detailed horoscope which adresses more things than just the generic sun sign was very detailed and said things like I have a tendency to live at home beyond reaching adult age, that I'm sensitive and hurt myself by provocing others and gaining their wrath, that I cause a lot of stress around me in a workplace and is usually the "bad guy" the center of other's negative emotions but at the same time a survivor because of the influence of Saturn. All this and more fits me perfectly. It also suggested I would have trouble finding a normal job because of my spiritual and dreamy nature and that I had tendencies to be obsessed with race, lineage etc. It also fits me so detailed it's scary and this was just the basic version of the individual horoscope. There's a longer much more detailed version too but from the info I got about Moon, Venus and Saturn in X I learned enough to realize it can't just be total coincidence.
Would this information be considered totally generic? I don't think so. All of this was based on my birthdate, time of the day, location etc. Not just a general star sign description.
If my horoscope would have said I was a down to earth, practically minded guy who was great in making constructive decisions etc it would have been wrong. It said the opposite and many aspects were negative aspects even, energies which definitely make my life harder but still fit me perfectly.

(There was a reason why Astronomy and Astrology was separated...)
That's the BS horoscopes. I'm talking about the individual horoscope, depending on what time, date, year and where on earth you were born.
care to explain how that is supposed to have any impact whatsoever on ones life/personality?
The universe is a great thing. Humans are not the center of it and our solar system is probably just an insignificant but still perfect part of the cosmos. There are forces at work we do not fully understand. I believe the purpose of existence goes way beyond earth and human reality. I don't see why we couldn't be influenced by the stars and planets in our own galaxy.
so the fact that there is absolutely no correlation does not make you suspicious at all? if there was any influence that could be measured or at least proven to have some correlation with the group of people that it's supposed to influence, then we would be learning about astrology in science class.
just because your horoscope fits you doesn't mean anything- most people don't fit theirs at all. plus, it's easy to see that they are rather generic and would fit anyone who "wants to believe".
seriously, there's so many more accurate and much more inspiring tools to measure personality with, astrology just seems boring compared to them.

I base my belief system on the idea that humans are not the center of the universe and do not possess the means to answer everything. I believe the human mind is too limited and that there are things that physics can't explain. A human isn't biologically fit to understand everything, that's why I'd rather put my trust in the occult than in science. I'm a great supporter of science but I don't believe physics and psychology can or will reveal the true nature of the universe and all of existence.

and horoscopes are written by whom? aliens? green fairies? dwarfs?
no. they are written by humans. humans who want to exploit other humans and their naiveté.

Throughout all times, there have been human individuals who have been sensitive to the subtle energies of the universe. Maybe some of these were the first to document the effects of astrology.
If humans were meant to rely on logical thinking only, there wouldn't be people with spiritual talents.

posting your opinion leaves you open for the same critisism about your own views and beliefs.\
but "hit and run trolling' puts you in view of the moderators opinion of why you are on WP.

An article here explains way better than I can what's wrong with Astrology (a couple thingss I mentioned earlier are there.)
http://www.skepdic.com/astrolgy.html
Another problem is why use Western Astrology? Even if there was a valid connection between the stars and personality, why assume the western version rather than the Chinese or Mayan version?
Also, the constellations are an illusion. The stars in them for the most part are nowhere near each other, even from an astronomical view. Viewed from somewhere other than our solar system there would be an entirely different set.
My thinking on this, is that there are certain personality types people get along better with. The astro signs basically give you a list of the common personality traits that are shared with others born around the same time. It's not total rubbish, but it isn't 100% accuarate either, because there are just too many variables that effect a person's personality. I do think it would at least give you a good baseline on who would be most compatible with you.
I would say the horoscopes are generalized, so that anyone could make them fit their lives, if they really wanted to.
I have never looked at the specific astrolgy horoscope, or chart, based on your D.O.B, and T.O.B, so I couldn't say.
I am a Capricorn, so Taurus, Virgo, and other Capricorn's would be the most compatible, based on this.

this is where you're wrong man. it is total rubbish. there is no proven correlation.

Asperger's Syndrome isn't proven either. An AS diagnosis isn't more valid than astrology since there are no hard medical evidence supporting it. Just speculations and clinically accepted criteria based on people's behaviour. The actual "brain damage" can't be proven in most cases.
All my brain scans and x-rays proved normal. My brainwaves are normal etc. I'm diagnosed strictly on behaviour, nothing else. To me, this doesn't weigh heavier than astrology.

It's not proven, nor is it unproven...
From the looks of it, it seems like the Astrology signs (not the horoscopes) concerning personality traits, are based on statistics. Nothing magical, or spiritual there.
For example:
If they do a survey based on X amount of people that were born from 12/22-1/19 (Capricorn), and they find that the majority have certain personality traits in common, how is this rubbish? Sure it may not apply to everybody, but to the majority, it does.
Personality Traits of a Capricorn:
Good organizational skills
Neat & tidy
Practical
Realistic
Strong work ethic
Materialistic tendencies
Conventional
Respects authority
Egotism
Cruel taskmaster
Servility
Excessive perfectionism
Likes...
Simple food
Antiques
History
Responsibility
Not being pressured
Unconditional love
Privacy
Elitism
Family
Dislikes...
Untidiness
Disorder
Being teased
Familiarity
Surprises
New ideas & paths
Loneliness
Being useless
Public embarrasment
Almost everything on this list fit's me to a T.
