aside from sperm, what good are men?

I was doing some rough mental calculations and came up with the human race being maintainable with about 1 male for every 100 females.

Males would be kept in something like a stud farm. Raised and kept comfortably perhaps but not free.

With artificial insemination you don't even need 1 for every 100.

Would the gene pool not deplete eventually? Also that way their would be less evolution because the lack of choice. People are attracted to people that are genetically dissimilar in order to keep the gene pool varied and to match the genes you lack.

^ It would turn to World Z, full of half-sibling byproducts.

Source?

In nature, most species try to mate with the best ones possilbe, not with the genetically dissimilar.

Also

[quote]According to research reported in the July 2010 issue of Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, we are attracted to people who resemble our parents or ourselves./quote]

This is only one study, but I do tend to like men with blue eyes. All of my family have blue eyes, it's what I'm used to.

^ Yeah, if what she says is true, then why tall hot women aren't throwing themselves at me?

I am so genetically dissimilar to them.

Height isnt purely genetic it can be affected by environment and diet, not to mention epigenetics also

It's more of a subtle pheromone attraction that a lot of people dont pick up on cinciously rather than a oh my god I want to f**k that guy cause he is different to me. Also it is only a part of attraction wanting a mate that can hunt and protect you is also a factor to increase survival

Also other genes are more important such as fertility, general health, metabolism, immune system.

Here is a link to a paper:

I have more sources if anyone wants to learn more :)

Here are a few more. It's actually a really interesting subject. There is of course more study needed on it to have further conclusive evidence

When I want to understand human behavior I look first to other primates.

Alliekit's statement that female's look for different attributes in a mate is supported by recent primate research. They found 2 identifiable traits used in selection.

1) Health
2) Physical differences (ie, coloring, form, etc)

The theory is that primates seek genetic diversity.

In all 200+ primate species, the female chooses the mate.

btw. this factor is believed to be the reason for the spread of blond hair. The most recent theory, based on DNA study is blond hair is not an adaption to cold environments like light skin, but a mutation that began in the steppes and was a genetic diversity attraction.

Artifical insemination is not a preferred method. One it is a static gene source and two is vunerable to power outages.

1:100 males to females still is a lot of males (80 Million odd today).

But I envison stud farms with multiple males. There are male kids raised, and those deemed desireable are put in the mating stock. A male is fertile/healthy for about 20 years. So a typical farm has a total of 200 males all ages supporting a community of 20,000 females. There are maybe 30-40 breedable males at any given time. But the local girls to not mate with them. The locals mate with other communities males and other communities come to them. This would be like the common practice of females/males always marrying out of the clan etc. Non-breedable males are given other menial jobs.

So if a female is willing to travel she could visit numerous studs until she finds a desireable mate. Even out of the country, or whatever women come up with as political domains. (Maybe covens. ) The males have no say and must comply.

Not the prettiest picture, but feasible I think.

Watching naked studs running on the pastures is your fantasy, isn't it?

Males over 40 have sperm quality issues. Passed peak sperm one might say.

I'm 55....I bet, if they tested my sperm, that I'd be A-Okay!

In other ways, I'm getting older. But not too bad.

But as far as sexual appetite--it's the same as when I was 15.

LOL....No stud farm for me! I ain't going out to Pasture!
