I promise: I'll make my corned beef sandwich myself! I'll get my wife a beer!

Also: I like my grits with eggs and a bit of salt.

Question here to the experts on what is sexist. Is this sexist? I read it earlier and thought it was hilarious.

A redneck moves to NYC and applies for a job in a department store that has everything you can imagine in it. The manager is a bit unsure because the guy is a redneck and all but gives him a try anyway. The end of the first day at work comes around and the manager asked him if he made any sales and he said he did, one. The manager told him to tighten up, that one sale a day won't fly in NYC and the redneck said sorry, he'd try harder. The manager was walking away and turned around and asked all smart ass "How much was that one sale anyway?" and the redneck told him $101, 673.89. The manager asked what he sold and the redneck said this guy wanted a fish hook so he got them for him then suggested a new rod, which the guy bought and asked where he was going fishing. When the guy told him the redneck asked if he had a boat and the guy said no so he took him down and sold him a boat. The guy was concerned about his Honda pulling it and so the redneck took him to automotive where he sold him a SUV.

The manager was shocked. He said "The guy came in for fish hooks and you sold him a car and boat?" The redneck said "No, he came in for Tampax and I said dude your weekends shot, why don't you go fishing!"

How unsafe and uncomfortable is the whole environment now? Was it sexist? Should I be mad cause the word redneck was said? Should I be worried that some animal rights activists might be upset about the fishing part? What about enviromentalists because the SUV uses a lot of gas. Tell me oh queens of us all!

This is the most important question: How much commission did the redneck get?

My important question,I doubt there's a fish in a hundred miles of NYC and if you caught one it'd have three eyes,I wouldn't eat a fish from up there, nasty.I doubt anyone up there would even know how to fish. But that's just my brain and jokes,it's not offensive but it makes no sense to my mind.

People fish in Jamaica Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Hudson River all the time.

I'm a native New Yorker--so I know.

People buy fish by the ton off boats which dock at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, which goes out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Much has been done to clean the waters which surround New York City.

I'd love to visit NYC one day. Paris and the English countryside and Scotland as well.

::sigh::

Never been there, when I think of NY,I think of Love canal.I still don't think I'd eat a fish from there.Seems like there would be a lot of carp.
Maybe they are fishing, but I doubt it safe to eat.

Love Canal is about 400 miles from NYC--near Buffalo, I believe.

Olive Oil: I do hope you get the opportunity. That house in your icon looks like the English countryside.

As for NYC, hop on a greyhound, buy a ticket 2 weeks in advance, it might be under $100 round trip. I could pick you up on my lunch hour at work. The bus terminal is just a couple blocks from Times Square.

Don't forget all the good trout fishing upstate. I was in the North Country for 2 years and fell in love. What I wouldn't give to go back!

Yeah, that icon does look like that. That's why I picked it.

Awww, thank you for the invite, but I couldn't do that. I wouldn't have anywhere to stay up there and plus I'd probably end up shot by somebody or in jail because 1. I'm mouthy (really?) but 2. I'm very polite in person and damn well expect it from others and the first time somebody was rude to me I'd be in an argument and it would certainly escalate if they didn't back down. Also, 3. I have a very thick Southern accent and I've lived in DC a year where my husband is from and up there everybody had something to say and it wasn't nice. I'm sure New Yorkers would assume I was a hick and dumb and say something and see point number two to finish this thought.

It might be the same in France, cause I hear the French are rude but that's ok, I don't speak French so I won't understand what they are saying. The English are probably too polite to make fun of my accent and because they are polite, and also because most Southerners are huge Anglophiles and extremely interested in English life, we would probably get along great there. Except it's cold and not sunny. Also, I don't understand foreign money but I do trust the English not to rip me off, but not the French.

Trout sounds nice, they like clean water, world record trout caught here. The link I posted earlier seems to indicate the fish around the city are toxic.Maybe the people catching them are very poor and don't know better.

If you come up in late July, you could stay in my place. You could bring your husband as well. You're a temptress--but I'll keep my hands off

There's all kinds of accents in NYC. If you ride on a subway at midnight, you'll find people speaking 10 different languages--no joke!

There are lots of tourists from the South who come here.

You wouldn't encounter prejudice because of your Southern accent.

England is actually usually in the 60-70s from June to August. This past winter, London only got below freezing a couple of days. When it's sunny in England, it's really beautiful in the countryside.

Not true. People who live in more affluent parts of Brooklyn often fish and eat the fish caught off Sheepshead Bay. The fish is sold to many thousands of people in Chinatown. People from all walks of life go there.

I used to know somebody who lived there who talked about the lobster at Lundy's in Sheepshead Bay. It's closed now isn't it? I used to really want to try that place. Also this old style 60's type nighclub called the Rainbow Room I heard about. It was supposed to be like one of those 1950's nighclubs. I wanted to go to Arthur Ave and see that area and I wanted to see the big Catholic Churches there, and go around and see what all the boroughs are really like. I want to ride a real NYC subway, at night like in Sat Night Fever, and I want to ride on a toll road, and try NY pizza and meet NY wiseguys not our Southern Gentleman Italian ones we have down here. I want to drive a car in traffic and actually blow my horn at somebody to tell them to go rather than only blow it when somebody cuts in front of you or a dog is in the road. I want to ride in a NY taxi. I want to see if Harlam is really that scary. I want to meet local folks over a beer at a bar, get into conversation and then go to their house and show them how to cook a Southern meal like I did when I visited Canada that time.

I want to go to a real city that isn't just Birmingham and isn't all wierd like DC was.

So the health dept is wrong? Not trying to knock your city,in the lower part of my state some fish are unsafe to easy because of paper mills and industry.Even though these rivers flow thru rural areas the fish are still not safe to eat on a regular basis. The part of the state where I live has no industry,so the water is clean in remote areas.I live on the watershed of a national river, the river below me gets tested regularly for water quality by U.S. Park service,no chemicals,a small raise in e-coli during summer months because of cows, but it's always been way below any danger level. So I don't believe the fish near any major city could be clean, just the run off from the storm drains would be enough to put petroleum and other chemical residue in the water.I do commend the efforts to clean the water up,a worthwhile project.
