All of this PUA nonsense is just a way to sell horny guys books - being confident and trying to learn to smile once in a while is really all I need to do - and I knew that before.

this fit well with the article i quoted earlier in the thread, which quoted a study that found that the more typical women to succumb to pick-up artists tend to hate other women. misogyny does seem to underpin the whole movement.

i read someone's academic thesis that discussed PUA in depth (142 pages, egad). she was quite even-minded about the movement. she gave stories of how it helped her brother and similar men to get laid, but was also realistic about the fact it did not lead to long-term relationships.

it is a sort of informal (sometimes formal) men's club and men lose membership if they don't keep it up. to retain standing in the "club" men need to go out on friday and saturday night at minimum, at the very least as a coach (or as a continued PUA who may or may not follow through with the targets) while their wives and girlfriends stay at home.

she also noted that underpinning the movement is the promotion of the idea that women are interchangeable and expendable. that's the essential idea that gives men the ability to completely stop caring about rejection and treat women like objects to be scored. successful PUA approach THOUSANDS of women every month. and when phone numbers are obtained from women, 80% or more are fake. it's near-constant rejection, so the only way to mentally handle that without experiencing psychological damage is for them to deride and objectify and demean their targets.

i think that it is a good thing for people to build their own self-esteem high enough that rejections don't sting so much, and also "oneitis" can then be avoided. but PUA is the extreme end, far beyond what could ever be necessary for that aim.

I think your analysis is pretty much spot-on - and your last paragraph pretty much sums it up perfectly.

Overall, I think my little foray into that world has given me a few "pearls" to apply to my own situation, but I'm more-or-less done with it...

dude, two-black-eyes picture ain't much better than the krusty the clown picture. it looks like she accidentally sneezed over her cocaine (first pic) and got beaten up by her dealer for it (second picture). I'm not sure you should take lessons from her.

oh i'm sure she's a douche but you guys are being harsh on her looks! she just tryna be sexy- her target market is lonely men... hence all the makeup and tan and poutaganza. tis business.

i admit i LOL'd at poutaganza!! !! i feel you are correct - she is trying to be as sexy as possible to represent the idealised sort of woman the customers might want to pick up. she comes across as sexy and confident abd high status in a bar-environment sort of way, and she gives these guys "hope".

i threw up in my mouth a little. i hate that humans are so easy to sell stuff to.

Btw, I can tell she's using Kohl (very dark mascara) in the second picture, is it used anywhere in US or Europe? because it still WIDELY used here by women (like every one I know, even my sister), especially at night events. I never liked them though.

I think what the "PUA haters" miss is that the "Game" is all just a logical consequence of women being, on some fundamental level, hard to get.

If women were as "down" for sex with a variety of men, as men are for sex with a variety of women, men would easily fulfill their curiosity/interest/whatever about what it's like to be with various types of women with different personalities, looks, etc. Which is something nearly every man has wondered about--when you're fascinated by something, you want to learn all about it. If anyone, aspies should understand that!

In this alternate reality, the task of "picking up" women would be boring for most men after a short while, and the whole PUA thing would hold no fascination whatsoever. Just like there is no "game" about how to strategically visit restaurants, or visit foreign countries, or any of a number of other things... because anyone who is curious about the food at a certain restaurant can walk in and try it, provided they have a little money. No restaurant will deny you service because they don't like you, or because they think that you like another restaurant just as much or more.

Whenever there is something that's a challenge, some people will make a game out of succeeding at it. It's that simple!! People are addicted to the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming a challenge. So the very fact that it's hard for a guy to get one girl to get naked with him, or sleep with him, makes it more likely he will go to lengths to do it with others. It's not a "guy thing", it's a reaction to the dynamic that women create with the way they select men. If it weren't for that, those men would undoubtedly direct their need to play games at some other "target", for instance, well, playing games (chess, sports, etc.).

that sounds nice in theory but would be terrible for the quality of our species. you guys should thank us for being the driving force of evolution (=hard to get)
