I can vouch for the whole southerners thing in NYC. My then-gf and I went to Tavern On the Green when it was still around and the folks there were AWESOME.

Maybe it was just DC in the 80's then. You remember then. The whole culture and climate and stuff.

LOL! Actually we just got distracted by food, fishing and vacation ideas. OK, back on track before we get this thread closed....

Question here to the experts on what is sexist. Is this sexist? I read it earlier and thought it was hilarious.

A redneck moves to NYC and applies for a job in a department store that has everything you can imagine in it. The manager is a bit unsure because the guy is a redneck and all but gives him a try anyway. The end of the first day at work comes around and the manager asked him if he made any sales and he said he did, one. The manager told him to tighten up, that one sale a day won't fly in NYC and the redneck said sorry, he'd try harder. The manager was walking away and turned around and asked all smart ass "How much was that one sale anyway?" and the redneck told him $101, 673.89. The manager asked what he sold and the redneck said this guy wanted a fish hook so he got them for him then suggested a new rod, which the guy bought and asked where he was going fishing. When the guy told him the redneck asked if he had a boat and the guy said no so he took him down and sold him a boat. The guy was concerned about his Honda pulling it and so the redneck took him to automotive where he sold him a SUV.

The manager was shocked. He said "The guy came in for fish hooks and you sold him a car and boat?" The redneck said "No, he came in for Tampax and I said dude your weekends shot, why don't you go fishing!"

How unsafe and uncomfortable is the whole environment now? Was it sexist? Should I be mad cause the word redneck was said? Should I be worried that some animal rights activists might be upset about the fishing part? What about enviromentalists because the SUV uses a lot of gas. Tell me oh queens of us all!

No, but you could worry about the fact that you act like a jerk. That's the one I'd go for. :)

This has got to be the most enlightening and profound thread I have read in a long time. We used to have a yearly Spam cooking contest once a year here at the ranch.

I would be weary of cooking in the nude though!

Oooh, good one! My feelings are hurt now lol.

If you want to think I'm a jerk, fine. I'm straight up with people. You always know where you stand with me and I expect the same from others, so it's fine to know you think I'm a jerk. I'm just sick of whiney girls acting like they speak for all of us and they do not. I'm sick of a lot of things, but that's the one I'm typing about now. You wanna get on their boohoo buggy, go for it. No skin off my nose. Other, more logical people here see this situation the same as I am. Trust me on that one. Many don't post in these threads. I'd really rather have someone point out how I'm being ridiculous than just let me keep on about it. I point it out. Then again, I point it out whenever I see it, just cause I do. If that's your definition of jerk then that's fine.

So, am I the joke because of the jerk, because I didn't bow down and accept some notion that if one chick's upset it's a slap in the face to all women, because I called them queens, or just because I was a sarcastic b***h in general? I'm just curious. I'm really ok with any of the answers but I'd like an honest one if you don't mind. You have your right to your opinion just like I have mine and the sexist horny guys have theirs. I'd like to hear it is all. Not trying to fight about it or anything, because it doesn't matter to me, but I'm just curious. So, do tell. What got your panties in a wad about me?

ETA: This kind of thing I said above, but louder and with more hand gestures and many more cusswords, said in a strangers face who insulted me is the exact reason I said I thought I'd get shot in NYC. Oddly enough, I live in a place with tons of guns and only been shot at and missed a few times, but down here we are used to this kind of thing. They take it as a threat up there I've heard. (I was told this by a friend in NJ)

Many small southern cities are more dangerous than NYC.You are more likely to get shot in LR,Ark.The noise and flashing lights would bother me,all the car horns. But it would be worth it for the museums and art.
On the topic of this thread,I don't think there is anymore sexism here than in RL,some do say things they shouldn't,and those who have been victims may be sensitive to this.I think that the members here should just call people out on inappropriate comments.

In my own defense though, to those who don't like me (with reason and for no real reason) who would you rather be there and have your back in the real, offline, face to face, meatlife (TM Stella) world? Somebody like me, as abrasive as I can be at times, or somebody who takes offense to every little thing and whines over it all? (Hint, whiners rarely fix things or take any appropriate action at all - they wait for somebody else to do so).

Had you really rather spend your time nursing old wounds, crying over spilled milk, kicking a dead horse, Googling webpages with ideas to finally find something to feel better about yourself, wishing you had said this or that, hoping your life will change, and having your only real thing be a reputation on a very small part of the internet for being some kind of imagined social justice fighter, or had you rather deal with the pain you get from being knocked down over and over learning to stand up for yourself and finding real things to care about and do and live for? Because you are going to have pain anyway. Either from never having your hopes and dreams even thought about coming close to happening or from what other people do when you are out there trying to make them happen. Life hurts. It does. It shouldn't and it sucks, but it does and you can hurt over stupid things or you can hurt over "battle wounds" from learning how to fight through it all and find some part of the life you actually want, and deserve, and snatching it up and making it yours!

Yes, I said people should fight for what they want and believe and I'm NOT trying to get the Doublemint Twins to shutup about the point they want to make. Not at all. It's good practice to stand up and keep on about it for a while. However, there comes a time when you have to realize that you aren't tilting at windmills, you are throwing spoons at a drawing of a lighthouse. Then you find something else, but you got through it and the words didn't kill you so you learned that words don't kill you, even though they can hurt.

This is just silly is all. Really.
