I don't find uwmonkdm's opinions offensive but I'm not Christian.Though I also think that Jesus was a pretty cool fellow, not like most Christians.

"If Christ were here now there is one thing he would not be-- a Christian."
Mark Twain

There are some fine non-judgmental Christians ,but even here on WP a Christian made a remark about the Freemasons being satanic.Seems judgmental to me.
And I live in the bible belt,so I have been told umpteen times that I am going to burn in hell because;
1 I drink
2 Freemasonry
3 don't celebrate Christmas
4 had on black Led Zepplin shirt, obviously satanic  plus the heavy metal music I used to like
5 wouldn't go to Sunday school
6 was not baptized properly
7 for gay rights
8 don't attend church
9 stayed in some Christian group homes as a teenager, forced to go to church, read their material, one house parent sat on me,was made to sleep on the floor with no pillow or blanket because I had disobeyed them.

Would I date a Christian? If they kept their beliefs to themselves, maybe. But if I heard one
word about converting me,fini.

Masochism -
an abnormal condition in which pleasure is derived from domination by another person [God]

My point exactly :?

I don't know if Richard Dawkins understands what you're saying, but I know Christopher Hitchens does. Dawkins deals mostly with the science aspect.
Hitchens deals with the social and psychological implications as well, which are at play here.
It's understood that it gives you comfort and whatever, but I just see it in a different way than you do clearly..

God doesn't dominate me at all and I don't suffer from the interaction

I have free will

God just listens when I need help

I just really don't get that, sorry.
I prefer to be alone than have an imaginary friend.

He's not imaginary and it's not a two-way conversation

I just pray most nights and he sends me the help I need

The prayer is not self-serving - that's the main thing

 that sounds psychotic to me, and if you have free will, why are you relying on God to make things happen for you? Free will implies you're also responsible for what happens to you

No he empowers me to make things happen - it's an assistance thing

I can act secure in the knowledge he's there like a kind of safety net in the background

Maybe I'm just cynical, that just sounds like dependence, and we're back to where we started. going in circles :?
It bugs me that no one says anything about Jesus, or how his teachings are inspirational / good guidelines to live your life by etc... it's all about reliance on a God and whatever.

I like Jesus too and Mary

Jesus would be disgusted by how the church is run these days

If he came back he'd be locked up in a mental hospital

I don't depend on God, I'm just glad he's there

Why are you guys even talking about god on this thread? I don't think most men are interested in having sex with him, or dating.

At least we agree on something.
Same thing goes for the founding fathers.

As I recall, someone said they wouldn't want to date a Christian and I said I found Christian bashing tedious so there is a link to Christianity and who someone would date as God links to Christianity.

It's like a game - 'prove there's a link or this is off-topic and I'm telling!'

Lol

a forum phenomenon closely linked to 'OMG is this thread still running?! Shut it down this minute as it's of no interest to me!'

"Desist from posting anything not approved by me!"

I wouldn't want to date a person like this!
