nah, i was just trying to make a point about how pages 6-13 of this thread are merely a large flamewar... attempting to do so in a slightly humorous way...

Elaborate please.... :? . WHY is it irritating?

Why is it irritating that only women are constantly pressured to conform to a physical ideal? Because the end result is that they starve and torture themselves to attain that ideal, while men get off that particular hook.

Which goes back to my original point: men are expected to do everything to make more and more money... to the point where he has to work 70 or 80 hours a day to make enough money... The only people that really put down women that don't work are their parents (on occasion) while any man that doesn't make money is instantly labeled as a bum, even if he's not...

Honestly . I've never met a girl that doesn't care about the guy's shape.

Anyways, you think that most women are obsessed with their weight just because of men's preferences? Don't you think that there are other reasons such as girl-girl jealously , self-esteem, media ,fashion , family...etc ?

Getting off the hook probably has more to do with if the guy actually looks ok with more weight (a personality and mannerisms that vibe well with it), otherwise he just comes off as innactive, geeky, or like he just flat out let himself go because he didn't have the self-control stamina. From what I keep hearing I am thinking that it is less visual with women but still, I'd venture to guess the secondary 'how it comes off' effect has a lot of sway.

I don't think normal guys are turned on by emaciated women. The look that women are pressured to conform to is created by gay producers and directors in Hollywood. They want thier girlfriends to be shaped like young teenage boys. Real men love curves of all sizes.

If I had my choice, I'd choose the curvier woman, but I don't mind a skinny girl either.

Being a girl myself, I have a choice and I chose not to starve myself. Although I agree that the media does sometimes potray women in a negative image espeacially in the model industry, we still have that option whether to starve ourselves or not. Same goes for men. I don't think this is a gender thing I think this is a test to see if we're really secure with ourselves. The answere even with me is no, I don't think we'll ever feel completely comfortable in our own skins. Yet we have that option to chose which path to take, it's not like there's a knife to our throats. Again, I do think women have a harder time in the media spot light. I also thing men do too, it's just different. I think we really don't have very good role models for young girls right now, maybe few but not many. That's just my opinion.

On the guys side its probably better not to starve ourselves just because, we lose muscle mass - not good either. Fitness and upping base metabolism seem to be the way to go all around I think just because, working out 3 times a week doesn't seem nearly as bad as soup and salad almost 24/7/365.

The first one looks much better than the latter. And it isn't just the outfit comparison. I like a girl with a little meat on her bones.

They are making an effort to exaggerate the difference between the girls. Notice the backgrounds. Notice one of them is smiling and the other isn't.

Even so, the point stands.

very true.

As a side note, a portion of skinny models voluntarily vomit to lose weight ...how healthy this can be?

Not at all, its purging nutrients and begging for throat cancer.

Then again, so much of what we do - college binge drinking for example - are self destructive behaviors that people push each other toward, just for the sake of either being attractive or competition of status. Natural law's just harsh like that.
