Unfortunately, I think it's sometimes routed in the misconception that being gay is an intense dislike and / or fear of the opposite sex.
I had a guy once rather inappropriately ask me 'who was the man that turned me gay' as if some man had crossed me and I'd declared him and his gender the enemy and that I was interested in women as a form of... coping? Rebellion? Misandry?
Such folks believe that they'll be the one to 'enlighten' a gay person.
I remember I rejected a guy once and he countered with "Well actually, I think you're bisexual" as if we were having a vote.
That is hilarious.

Oh this has happened to me. It was back in the early 90s and he was my next-door neighbour and he was living with an old school friend of mine and they had a child or maybe two.
He said I should have sex with him because everyone thought I was a lesbian and I needed to prove them wrong.
Yeah right!

That's a good point.
Dancing is a good skill to have.
I remember relatively recently on a night out late last year, I had some woman approach me on the dance floor and took my hand for a dance and I had no idea how to dance so kind of walked off annoyed with myself and a bit embarrassed.
I rarely go out to clubs and such, but dancing is definitely something that can be an advantage in those places.
