Normally I'm quite cool about electronics problems, this was just a particularly bad time for such a fast machine to be crashing & sort of a bad week, even though I got most of my stuff done.

That's not exactly the problem. I'm watching the Academy awards because my mom asked me to put it on & I can't help thinking this is a culture I'm not seen as a part of.

I think I'm an artifact of something else entirely. I don't know if that's good or bad.

I've never watched the Academy Awards in my life. I don't know those actors at all, and have scarce heard of the films (not to mention I have no interest to see any of them). I don't feel part of that culture either even though I lived near there for some time, and I've been to the Kodak / Dolby Theatre. It's a terrifying culture, really. The whole red carpet thing is scary to me. I call myself "Pop Culture Impaired". We all feel like artefacts in one way or another cberg, because none of us feel like we fit with mainstream. I doubt any of us would want a red carpet lifestyle. Be proud of the skills you have. It's a good thing.

"The Green Book" is actually an excellent film. I would recommend it to anybody.

I can never understand the Red carpet worship. It’s really odd to be honest. I don’t think NT people would be so interested or devoted to these events if they weren’t pushed upon them and talked about all the time in media. NT ppl just mimic whatever they see being pushed intensely at them n then think it’s important.

I really tried to watch or learn about it and still try occasionally as it gives a person something tp talk about.

I mainly google it and kind of have a vague impression in my memory to pull out if ppl start talking about those type of things.

It really makes me feel nauseous though. It’s an extremely repulsive construct in my opinion (overall) eg ‘Joan Rivers’ critiquing people’s dresses (what is it to her? ) and people screaming to be ‘near’ their fave ‘stars’ etc. Also ew to attending an awards party but having to be photographed like crazy for it.

How obnoxious that it is demanded of them, and then published for the world to discuss superficialities of that day fr years on end.

Also ew to ppl poring over and discussing it in depth who wore what who looked bad
esp in other countries that have no direct relation to Hollywood eg middle east where the ppl i see caring about award shows n celebs to that degree are the pretentious hedonist types, which I guess most of them are.

That’s my immediate judgemental take on it.

In reality

for whatever reason (mass media pushing it fr decades n decades imo) NT ppl often have a ‘special interest’ of such shows and it’s good to glean some info as a conversation tool

Sorry not to put down famous artists actors n musicians

I mean the shows themselves with the added stuff like news ppl critiquing dresses
and discussing relationships n fans screaming like crazed animals and famous ppl having yo be photographed so extremely much. It’s v invasive n always makes me feel sorry for those forced to be involved in it due to their profession.

I can understand the excitement of winning an award for acting skill, as drama has always been a passion of mine.

What I can't understand is how certain fashion designers have convinced seemingly the whole world that certain kinds of dresses are attractive. Some of the things I see parading down those red carpets are on an Emperor's New Clothes level of ridiculous. :jester:

Awards are great I don’t like how it becomes this circus with mean spirited reporters and too invasive

I've never understood or followed any awards that are given for subjective criteria. Even in the Olympics I don't like "judged" events. I prefer running races, swimming races, high jump, etc. with an overtly objective measure. I don't have any idea how an Oscar winner is chosen even though the actors, writers and designers are very talented and they all deserve recognition.

Well I'd like my thread to focus more on style choices that work with a technology-filled life. As I said I'll buy a new watch when I get around to it but gadget suggestions might also be cool. I'm not really into wearable electronics though. There's some money I can spend on this but I'm also saving up to get the hell out of the suburbs.

I must say now that I think about it, considering who I am & how people react to me, I feel judged at similar levels to what celebrities might experience  - it must be a kind of inside-out version of the same hypercritical atmosphere.

I'll can respond to more of this tomorrow, I need to go to sleep for now.

 Where would you like to move to? City or country?

I just need a winning lottery ticket, and then it's converted CBD warehouse, here I come. :P

Yeah, I'm more or less working on putting that kind of budget together myself. I plan on going somewhere much quieter, preferably in the mountains but I'm not very particular, I just want a house. I'm sick of being elbowed out of the property market by giant companies & prejudiced baby boomers. I need to be somewhere that my friends can walk into without a care in the world. My life should be a vacation from their realities.

I'll only ever live in a city if I can afford to do so in serious style. There's no reason for me to work as hard as I do without major aspirations. I want to make absurd sums of cash to spend outdoors, on friends & partying with them. Once that's out of the way, maybe I'll collect cars. Converting a warehouse has been on my mind, I seek to hoard the technical capacity to build more or less anything. I also want to drive around the world.

I'm writing this while I wait for $2,250 of software to crash, or not crash. Yeah, I'm underpaid but I'm fairly sure I know enough to change that. Working in multinational corporation is best done with some weed after work. I learned that the hard way, eschewing weed at Microsoft. Now there's an executive from Microsoft with his own cannabis brand.

My dad still lives alone in a different country in a tiny little space (just a couple of rooms) to provide for us all. And he wd rather die than inconvenience us. I guess it is honourable and kind but also shows that men hold a big burden willingly.

That is why I want to be rich to not have to rely on anyone

To be clear I'm also simply another lazy programmer.

I feel useless when I can't take care of friends though.

I'm sad regarding the common impulse that we all need to add something to ourselves to be socially acceptable.

I don't really need much more than honest conversation from anyone in my life. Being sapiosexual actually sort of helps with the ongoing societal brainwashing we call normality.
