He's very picky and seems to prefer food that's overpriced ,over packaged and has a cartoon character on the box.

I like baking cookies and stuff. I have about a 1:2 failure-to-success ratio as far as cooking..
I've only done it three times
Once during the summer when I was a teenager I decided to deep fry something, so I put the pan with the grease in it to heat up on the stove. I turned it on high. Then I decided to do some sketching and lost track of time. I spent the rest of the day scrubbing soot off the kitchen ceiling.

I freeze and panic and I can't seem to remove the flaming oven mitt without someone there to "wake me up."

I've been told any number of times that I'm a good cook, but these days the only person I have to cook for is my son. He's very picky and seems to prefer food that's overpriced ,over packaged and has a cartoon character on the box.
Maybe you could start weaning him off cartoon food by covering the cartoons on the boxes in a layer of duct tape. Get him used to eating the same poor quality food, only without being able to associate it with cartoons. Then start slowly introducing and tempting him with tasty non-cartoon brands of food .
& whatever you do, keep him away from Mcdonalds
.lol He's too smart for that.
