maybe you should just avoid the cheesy clichéd ones

So all of them? They all seem that way to me. :?

Try the two I mentioned (When Harry Met Sally and Definitely, Maybe). Also, if you haven't already, watch Shaun of the Dead and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

I don't know if you'd call them romantic comedies, per se, but my two favourite John Cusack vehicles are great too. Namely, Grosse Pointe Blank, which is a black comedy as much as a romantic comedy, and the wonderful High Fidelity, which is a meditation upon the nature of love, immaturity, human fallibility, and music.

Watch them and see if you agree with me.

When Harry Met Sally is a good movie.

If you want a good romantic movie that isn't a romantic comedy and doesn't overdo the romance...see Forever Young with Mel Gibson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and a young Elijah Wood. It has the perfect amount of romance (that is, not too much lol) and it's a very touching movie.

Obviously if I were good enough, would anyone have treated me that way? Of course not. Pretty girls are put on pedestals and girls like me are run into the ground. So yeah, that's why I hate romantic comedies. That, and they're just not that funny. Anyone else agree? :/

I like romance. And I like comedies. However, I've never seen a romantic comedy that I found either romantic OR funny.

I like the French movie Amelie because it's about whether to take a romantic risk or not and the gamble pays off.

I thought The 40-Year-Old Virgin was better.

...and yeah, Amelie is good. It's quite twee, but in a good way. It has a kind of retro feel to it, but the world it creates is somehow timeless.

Also, OP, the same thing happens to the so-called "pretty" women. Women often go for outgoing, social men...and with that comes the abuse, manipulation and so on.

So I should never talk to outgoing and social people? That leaves me with rapists and creeps. *sigh* Life would be SO much easier if I were a lesbian. Seriously, women hit on me more than guys do. Apparently I give off a lesbian vibe. I don't know why. I don't wear plaid shirts or mullets.

KaiG - Valentine's Day. I know nothing about it but that it was a recently-made romantic comedy and I wanted nothing to do with it.

Erisad you need to do some reading girl.
From what you just said in response to foreveryoung, I am really surprised nobody has said anything yet.

Look at how you responded.
In what I just read, it looks like to you the opposite of 'outgoing and social people' are rapist and creeps.

I know your pissed off and frustrated, but bloody hell do you realise how off handed that comment is?
Think about where you just posted that. Almost every person here probably has issues with being 'outgoing and social'.

Do you know that women can be rapist and creeps? I also agree with foreveryoung, and for your information some of the worlds most known serial killers
were very outgoing, social men. creepy enough?

Serial killers can also be classified by their organizational and social skills. They can be organized or disorganized (depending on the type of crime scene) and nonsocial or asocial (depending on whether they are excluded by society or exclude themselves). The following chart illustrates behaviors of the two most common types

As a teen Susan was a good student, well liked and outgoing. In her junior year she was voted president of the Junior Civitan Club, a club which focused on volunteering in the community. In her final year of high school she received the "Friendliest Female" award and was known for her cheerful and fun disposition.

Probably. I'm guessing that if I don't have a boyfriend anytime during this last year of college, it probably will never happen. When I graduate, I'll be poor and either be working or at home. I'll have no time for fun or anything. I can't drive so I'll have to rely on my mother for everything. I'm such a f***ing failure. D:

Erisad, your not a failure and you sure not a f*****g failure, your too young to be one. But you should start thinking about 'you', not about what may happen in the future. Or you could turn into one of those old cranky women nobody really likes being around, the ones with really bad poor me syndrome, a dozen kids and a husband that used to beat or cheat on her until he left for a younger woman. Sometimes caused by low self-esteem and grabbing the first prick that looks their way. Your better then that I think and I am sure others would agree, your selling yourself short. Your not ugly in the eyes of guys, or have you not seen the posters commenting? But your 'vibe' may be to some great guys, that vibe, could also really make you a target for those creeps you mentioned.

You have no control over the future or anyone in it, but you do have control over you.
So you don't drive, big deal. A car is just a waste of money and an added expense most do not need. Most big towns have buses for when the weather is crappy, walk when it isn't. You complain about your mother being controlling.. are you sure your not just handing it over to her?

(((Erisad))) cheer up girly enjoy the last year you have at college, work your ass off for kicking grades, you could always go for your masters ;)

Yup. They're stereotypical cheesy crap. I'd much rather watch something with some car chases and explosions in it, thanks.

Umm, yes. It always was. The zombie apocalypse is the B-plot.

It's case-by-case for me. 40-Year-Old Virgin is great because it's pitiful and funny and honest. He's Just Not That Into You, on the other hand, really does make me feel like an alien biologist; I have little to no idea why anything that does happens in that movie or what sort of message I'm supposed to glean. Is He's Just Not That Into You supposed to be uplifting, cautionary, none or all of the above?

Huh. I always thought it was just a straight-up comedy about a zombie apocalypse. I never caught on to the 'romantic' aspect of it.

The main plot is Shaun getting over his immaturity, being thrown into a situation where he at least makes an effort to excel, and winning back his girlfriend.
