And I like the Stephen Fry approach of no longer giving too much of a toss to spelling and grammar. So long as people's ideas come across clearly enough, it's all good. Besides, we all make mistakes. Maybe that's why my religion is the Church of Whatever Works.

This is hilarious. It's always interesting what we can learn, or not learn, from statistics. Do those seemingly random questions conceal some deep meaning about humanity and relationships, or is the correlation simply a result of the fact that when you analyze a lot of data, sometimes you get meaningless correlations due to random unknown variables. Another possibility is that these three questions are minor things that people don't mind lying about in order to appear more compatible to another person. Furthermore, it may be that one answer is more likely than the other in the total population. If 90% of people answered yes to a yes/no question, then it's most likely true that around 90% of couples agree on that answer, because they both answered yes. I can't imagine there are a whole lot of people that have traveled around a foreign country alone. IMO, this says more about the questions themselves than the people answering them. The sex correlation with beer is too obvious. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and those that consume large amounts are much more likely to have sex on a first date if they get drunk. As for religion and grammar, that case has already been made. The more literate a person is, the less likely they're religious.

The only point that makes complete sense is the liberal vs. conservative question. Liberals see things in shades of grey and people are no exception. With Conservatives it's all black and white, right and wrong, good and evil. I'd hazard a guess that the grammar question is instructive here as well, as the tendency of the uneducated (laying aside the issue of race) are more likely to be conservative as well as religious.

I don't know how many people on this thread have OKCupid accounts. Can someone please tell me how many questions there are in total for The Two of Us?

I can see myself getting absorbed in answering, so I don't know if it's something I should devote a whole Saturday to. Did that just make me sound like I have no life? I don't have an account, though I do have one on POF which I see now requires less work.

One thing that I found a little confusing about the article as it says that people that like the taste of beer are more likely to put out on the first date. But what about people who like the taste of wine? Or the taste of vodka? Arent they just as likely to be easy to get to know? Why beer?

They went through their data, and found that "do you like the taste of beer" was the casual question that correlated the most with "would you have sex on a first date". They didn't look for favorite drinks or anything like that.
