hipster in some parts, do sport the giant glasses..there has also been the disturbing trend of eyeglasses without lenses....which disturbs and baffles me..there has been..you know..this "wave" of Nerdcore rock and rap and such...that has sorta legitimately been seeping into "pop" culture...

You mean like Kanye West and Titchy Stryder doing the whole large glasses thing? Yeah that is annoying.

Just a bit. I wear glasses and contacts because I have to. While glasses can look stylish, they are meant to be functional. D:

Lol, twitter. I can't take it seriously. Also, I'm too wordy to get my message across in 140 characters. XD

Geek's just the newest fetish, kind of like lesbianism has been.
In much the same way straight men would find most dykes repulsive,
they in my experience would never notice the actual geek girls hiding under a shapeless hoodie while reading some obscure novel.
You learn to translate things.

"I like lesbians" = I like stereotypically-attractive women who make out in bars for my entertainment.
"I like geeky women" = I like stereotypically attractive women who wear glasses and will listen to me talk about html.

It's the same damned girl, all that changes are the trends.

Actual geek girls can dress attractively too, and they don't need to dress stereotypically attractive. Glasses rarely make a person more attractive.

Sure actual geek girls can dress in what's a popular way.
Or they can be themselves and get ignored, hence my point.

I wasn't referring to clothes with stereotypically attractive, though.

Nor was I asserting some sort of aesthetic objectivism, merely that glasses are part of the "geek girl" fetish.

Yup. I hear guys talk about how they want a nice girl who will understand their geeky interests and I'm like, "Hello! I'm right here!" But sadly, I know they aren't talking about a girl like me. They're talking about the geek you described. :/

Most guys are like that...it's a shame really...as they only want what is stereotypically popular like Bethie said.

I'd say a geeky girl is more likely to be eccentric then be into computers and tech...same for geeky guys...not all of us like our tech (I do up to a point but I like things most guys would like too...such as football (soccer to americans) and watching action films.

I get ignored because "I'm a nice guy but" or "You say complicated things"...wow...really? I think I have dumbed down to other people's levels through getting to know them better without acting like I know it all and it's rubbed off on me.

Yup and if you say that to them, they'll deny it. "That's not true! I have very discerning tastes!" No you don't, the magazines determine your taste for you. :/

I use tech but I don't like talking about it. I debate Macs vs PCs, Firefox vs Internet Explorer and that's about it. XD

They don't tell me why they turn me down, "I'm not looking for someone right now" and then I see them with a girl a few weeks later. WTF? D:

lol So true...I rarely read lad mags...but they are a usful tool.

I have seen console wars in forums...and they are not pretty...funny how some of them do have the same things we do too.

Try asking a girl out and she then tells me she's seeing someone THE NEXT DAY! XD

Um...magazines and such materials do nothing for me. D:

They aren't. Some people get all violent over the things they love I guess. >.>

I've seen that happen. I think it would be better to be honest with people instead of doing crap like that. Oh well.

It doesn't really for woman for some reason...

Not violent...just insulting and rude...and offensive.

To be fair, I couldn't (or wouldn't) dare tell this girl who randomly went out with me that I wasn't interested (wasn't sexually active) as she was obsessed with sex and stuff...and this was my first year in school! D:

Not all...I'm sure there are female magazine and/or porn addicts out there.

That's kind of what I meant. Verbally violent. :P

Maybe she wanted to corrupt you? Some people like that sort of thing.

Probably...although very discreet.

Oh, yeah alright then.

I doubt it...she was pretty slu*ty anyway...I think she has since slept with almost everyone in my class? (except a few of us like me)
