for me, the only people who won the genetic lottery are the people who have the whole package of attractiveness, and i can't tell that unless i get to know them personally. those celebs may be douchebags or high maintenace or whatever. they don't look good to me unless they are fleshed out with more important things.

True, but as someone pointed out, if we posted pics of our real crushes, it would violate their privacy. In the celeb world, there's no such thing as privacy any more. Their faces are public property, poor things.

I'm not sure I was saying anything that contradicts your position; but, I admit I wasn't being terribly highbrow about it either(!) I was simply trying to participate in a thread that, for better or worse, doesn't really lend itself to the kind of thorough personal analysis you (or I) would want to do IRL, right? I guess I was treating this as a fun and superficial little game, which may or may not be true to the OP's design.

No, not really. I am very down to earth I guess, even in my fantasies, I don't even see the point to have a fantasy about someone that unreachable.

yeah, i think i understand. some of us see it differently, is all.

do you watch t.v. or something and think to yourself, "i find so-and-so attractive"? i don't think that way, though i totally understand that other people must do so. i think there's nothing wrong with that.i just think it's interesting to see different perspectives on it.

there are a few actors that i find intriguing, or that i respect a lot, and it can build up into a certain attractiveness in my mind (like Helen Mirren or Alan Rickman), but it has nothing to do with their appearance. so it wouldn't be relevant to this discussion, i think. it's like people become good-looking once i get to know them.

Btw, I agree with the term "won the genetic lottery", celebs are people who won it, yes most of them had worked hard too, but without great inborn talents and/or good looks they wouldn't be able to do it. Same can be said about great scientists/politicians/sportmen.

I've never crushed on a celebrity. There are a few that I'm like, "They're nice looking" but that's about it really. I guess real people are more interesting to me. And yes, I mean "real people" as I believe that celebrities are manufactured on an assembly line...like robots. DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!

Alan Rickman in "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and (oddly enough) the Harry Potter movies.

A lot of the men just look a bit fake tbh. Like Ken (as in Barbie and Ken). It's creepy. There probably are famous men I'd find attractive, I'm just not sure how to find them. We need a search engine where you can put in the attributes that you'd like to see and it'll provide you with a suitable person for your viewing requirements.

He is really enjoyable to watch as an actor (very funny in Dogma). And yes, I completely agree - his speech and mannerisms, his vocal inflections....he's very unique. There's a scene in one of the Harry Potter movies where he says a very simple line, "Not so quick, Mr. Potter." The way he says it is so....I don't know....deliberate....he's quite intriguing. Why, you're no Debbie Downer at all. :wink:

He was great in Sense and Sensibility as well...although I feel Alan Rickman should never be blonde ever again. >.<
