True narcissists belong to the same psychological grouping (Cluster B, DSM-IV) as those with Anti-Social Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Histrionic Personality Disorder. Cluster B personalities are described as dramatic, emotional, and erratic.

Narcissists care for most people as much as they care about a toaster.

you crave endorsement. i do not. i do not care if no one else on earth thinks as i do. i still think what i think.

I believe that everyone needs endorsement, it's just that many people get the required endorsement from family and friends, which is something I don't have IRL.

Feel free to ignore me if it bothers you, I really don't intend to annoy anyone...

Well it's definitely good to have confidence in your convictions, and there are ceratinly times to hold your ground no matter what. But in most cases, I can never shake off the nagging possibility that I might be wrong...

you should not care if you are seemingly wrong.
i never care and i am at least as happy as you are.

but i know you have children and that beats me, i know you are more sophisticated than me.
you are more important than me.

but never the less i know where i am and i do not dance like a small dog jumping for joy no,matter what i see.

I don't know, I've worked that angle to death and it hasn't done anything for me....!

how do you know it didn't work?

People sometimes mistake confidence for narcissism. I did a thread called "Arrogant Narcissistic Conceited Jerks" on another site as a sort of homage to the whole concept. Apparently I rub some people the wrong way, and they fall back on these names to express their displeasure. I'm OK with it.

I think it depends on what the other characters are in the immediate social circle. (my opinion / experience so take with a pinch of salt) I am finding that shy, reserved individuals are more likely to warm to the bolder 'narcissistic' personalities. but when there are lots of 'narcissists' present i find there tends to be a clash and such behaviour is not well received.

I think it is a good idea to learn how to switch it on and display it when it's needed but hide it oth.....

okay, i'll start again now i properly know what narcissism means...

Yes, it is attractive for the short term - until other people can see through it. such timescales depend on the wisdom of the other people concerned

That's what the PUA master David De'Angelo calls "Cocky and funny". Interesting to see someone who isn't male on the L&R forums is vouching for a PUA strategy.

i don't know anything about him, but yeah i reckon i'd vouch for that
why is that interesting though

That's a good thing, as long as you consider it possible and not probable. Self doubt is a noble quality; it's the difference between confidence and arrogance.
I think it might be the difference between philosophy and politics, too. :?

Making a sweeping generalisation from three anecdotal cases seems a bit hard to swallow.

Well, attractiveness is a sum of various personality characteristics. If you have the typical autistic characteristics (Like lack of humor, social and emotional reciprocity, creativity, etc.), it might take a bit more than narcissism. It might really just take a LOT of searching and making sure you're good in other parts of your life and you "feel good" about life and/or yourself, or something like that. (Don't ask me!)

Anyway, there's this concept in psychology called the "dark triad"(Which consists of narcissism; Machiavellianism; and psychopathy) which is basically the personality traits associated with the often so talked-about "bad boys". I can't find the research right now, but it basically said that those with a "middle amount" of dark triad traits tended to maximize their attractiveness or, rather, the amount of women that were attracted to them. It might only be a short term tactic, though, and not exactly one that would lead to long term relationships...

Beware. Correlation does not imply causation. I would certainly not recommend acting like a narcissist in an attempt to increase dating success. There's nothing more annoying than an inept narcissist, if you ask me.
