What about POSSLIQ (Person of the Opposite Sex Sharing Living Intimate Quarters)

Yours is better. Mine does not differentiate between lovers and people sharing the rent who happen to be of the opposite sex. Yours also can be pronounced in a way to include "lick." (Was that intentional? You didn't include an emoticon.) BTW, I didn't make mine up. I don't know where it originated, though.

I usually referred to a human I was dating by their name. If, for some odd reason, clarification of dating status had to be voiced, it was their name followed by "who I am dating." I didn't walk around bragging about it though, so usually the human just got referred to by name.

I hear people my kids friend's age group age 15 - 25 say either "ole man" or "ole lady" a lot. A really popular thing they say right now to refer to their bf or gf is "ole dude" or "ole girl", but they use that as a name, as in "Ole girl was all upset at me yesterday" or "Look what ole dude got me for my birthday". They don't use "my" in it like ole man or ole lady.

People are weird.

Thanks. I enjoy etymologies, and they are rarely this specific and definite.

I like to be referred to as "Master" or "Sir", but then, I also like my relationships to be somewhat "special" :P

I think significant other (you can use SO for short) or partner are good alternatives to using the word boyfriend.
