because normal nice guys are boring as f**k. Crazy bad boys are exciting.
Bad boys don't actually care about you on a significant emotional level - that's why their sense of humor is so as*hole-ish. That's why they use pet names. That's why they play games. That's why you're not their only girl (though many often hide their oscillations). That's a high risk game.
When you finally do have enough years of their BS, and perhaps grow out of them, as many girls do in their late 20's, the really "nice guys" will then be deterred from dating you. Even if you don't find them boring. You see, girls who express past interest in "bad boys" and "players" (often one and the same) send up a red-flag of high emotional risk. Nice guys learn to avoid these girls, having been burned / ditched by them for being "boring" -- nice guys learn this lesson right around the same time girls get tired of dead-end "bad boy" types.
It's a catch-22. You think we're boring now... but we're also the ones who ultimately get to choose. Nice guys are the only ones who really mean it.

I love how nature works sometimes....people learn from their mistakes on both sides....so it's moreso a selective cycle really. The ones who dated bad boys usually do get "their man" at the end...but it's not always what is hoped for.
I think that some (not all) woman who do this are pretty shallow because....why would they like to put their life and appearance at risk for these guys?
First appearances is a very shallow thing indeed, but I agree that some nice guys are genuinely boring people that I can relate.
Interesting that you mention this actually....if you look at our generations...many old people are happily married because they chose who they liked without the bad boy persona being around all that much....everyone worked together in a community so love happened via interacting in the same interests....but those from the 1950's to even these days you see many divorces because these couples have rushed their relationships when they find out down the line that they are not what they thought they were...but were too young to split due to having a kid on the way (in most cases, not all), so they bring up the kid like loving parents but with no love with one another and split as soon as the kid is old enough to take care of themselves.
It's a sad case really but I think that is what happened back then....these days people pick and choose when to split regardless of whether they have a kid on the way or not!
