Bad boys don't actually care about you on a significant emotional level - that's why their sense of humor is so as*hole-ish. That's why they use pet names. That's why they play games. That's why you're not their only girl (though many often hide their oscillations). That's a high risk game.

When you finally do have enough years of their BS, and perhaps grow out of them, as many girls do in their late 20's, the really "nice guys" will then be deterred from dating you. Even if you don't find them boring. You see, girls who express past interest in "bad boys" and "players" (often one and the same) send up a red-flag of high emotional risk. Nice guys learn to avoid these girls, having been burned / ditched by them for being "boring" -- nice guys learn this lesson right around the same time girls get tired of dead-end "bad boy" types.

It's a catch-22. You think we're boring now... but we're also the ones who ultimately get to choose. Nice guys are the only ones who really mean it.

**Speaking very generally -- not absolute; just on principle

I love how nature works sometimes....people learn from their mistakes on both sides....so it's moreso a selective cycle really. The ones who dated bad boys usually do get "their man" at the end...but it's not always what is hoped for.

I think that some (not all) woman who do this are pretty shallow because....why would they like to put their life and appearance at risk for these guys?

First appearances is a very shallow thing indeed, but I agree that some nice guys are genuinely boring people that I can relate.

Interesting that you mention this actually....if you look at our generations...many old people are happily married because they chose who they liked without the bad boy persona being around all that much....everyone worked together in a community so love happened via interacting in the same interests....but those from the 1950's to even these days you see many divorces because these couples have rushed their relationships when they find out down the line that they are not what they thought they were...but were too young to split due to having a kid on the way (in most cases, not all), so they bring up the kid like loving parents but with no love with one another and split as soon as the kid is old enough to take care of themselves.

It's a sad case really but I think that is what happened back then....these days people pick and choose when to split regardless of whether they have a kid on the way or not!

Seriously? Using pet names is now a bad boy trait?

I wear black shoes and drink orange juice!
If I get a sex change and start liking girls, I can be a bad boy who gets all the ladies.

That's not what I meant -- it ought to be evident in my context -- I am referring to someone using non-commital terms like "babe" or "girl" or "hon" as a means of emotional distancing, instead of first names like everyone else does. 'Bad boys' often do this as emotional avoidance, because they don't care, and don't want to - it's part of the emotional pathology.

It's also not an independent indication -- the use of pet names =/= "bad boy" -- it completely depends on the context and purpose. It's a "how."

(If a guy you just met is being overly flattering, smarmy, and not using your first name - that could be a red flag as to his probable nature...)

The context of what I mean is very important. I should have been more specific.

'Dysfunctional' (as defined by the mental health industry) people tend to have more in common with other dysfunctional people as they have often suffered a lot of rejection and are often outsiders therefore they will find more common ground with other outsiders than the more mainstream type of person.

I feel very uneasy and insecure around 'normal' people - the pressure to conform they bring with them makes me feel ill!

Give me a non-violent dysfunctional over a normal any day as we have far more in common and they are invariably more intelligent from my experience

The dysfunction is usually caused by being too individualistic and stubborn to conform to society's highly unreasonable expectations and these are good traits in my opinion, not dysfunctions

And with the majority foolishly looking down on the dysfunctional, all the more for me so I'm quite happy with the low status afforded us!

I see what you mean now.
"Pet name" to me, implies some sort of affectionate intent, hence my misunderstanding.

Crazy to believe but true. I'm not necessarily referring to autism, but more like the type that make you unstable, such as certain panic disorders and whatnot or even really severe anti-social disorders. A lot of women are more attracted to said guys over the nice, clean-cut and well-rounded guys because they make their lives more exciting and think that they could heal these guys...plus a lot of these women tend to have their own psychological disorders that they're good at masking.

So if you do have a psychological disorder, you're in good company.
i seem be getting more mentally unstable by the day lol. My social skills seem to be declining, i become less and less independent, and more and more anxious/paranoid.

My experience with girls seems to be the same...at a nice 0/infinity experience points.

abyssquick hit the nail on the head. I'm already at that stage of not wanting to be the "second choice" to a woman. If you didn't like me before, why on earth would you like me now? That type of thing.

I hate that too. Nothing is worse for me than having to reject a girl for when they come back to me because things didn't work out well with the person they rejected me for. I think the saying goes "you didn't want me when you could have had me, and I moved on. Sorry"

It depends on the type of abnormality. Some types tend to be attractive to women in general; other types not so much.
