In fact, most English (and indeed Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish and Irish) people actually drink at home now rather than in the pub. Pubs have been closing (in the last five years) at the fastest rate in British history - really, there's been an astonishing decline in the number of pubs in the UK. I myself mostly drink at home - I have a bottle of Hawkshead Lakeland Gold (4.4%), a wonderfully hoppy golden ale, sat by me.

Generally, people only buy each other drinks if they're friends, or they know the person in the pub and want to have a drink with them, or that nice bit of skirt (racist misogynist homophobe alert!) at the bar/in the pub, or as a favour to someone who is short that day. Often, though, there is a 'round' system (unless the unwritten rules that the circumstances dictate otherwise), in which case you just buy your own.

I'm off out to the pub tomorrow. I'll see what beer is on, but I'll probably stick to keg mild.

I've noticed that about Chinese, too. Especially from Taiwan.

In this case, however, the woman had a very low social status in China: I think that she didn't finish high school, was looked down upon as a "country bumpkin", etc. Plus, at age 30, was considered an old maid.

It could be a matter low-status people from both countries getting together, and, in both cases, improving their statuses.

I remember a Taiwanese woman once commenting that it was usually the ugly Chinese girls who were marrying Americans, and that their husbands were quite handsome. Americans typically regard the situation as being the exact opposite.

That's because in America someone is automatically "hot" if they're not fat. In other countries there's more requirements.

Really?

Can you cite the case of even one wealthy individual who became immortal by giving away all that he had?

Yes there is the parable of the rich young ruler.

By analogy I am stating that youth could also be a form of wealth. If a young man would share his love with an older woman he would be on the pathway to immortality. Often today older women are denigrated and considered to be undesirable and in this way they are poor.

I get on well with Chinese and asians. I keep flirting with these hot 35-50yr old auckland chinese ladies. Its like they go to the gym and dress sexy, making up for lost time when in China!

Its a perfect accompaniment to a male aspies sorrow
an unmarried older potentially HFA chinese woman
the language barrier makes poor latent emotional communications
[by both sexes]
a god send

shame so many of them are NT's

Oh. A story. I was hoping for something factual. First that lie about Scrooge being based on real events, and now this one.

Just how would that work? How would sharing love with an older woman make a man immortal?

Focus, please; this thread is about a 60-year old man marrying a Chinese woman half his age, and NOT about your half-baked fantasies.

By the way, I do know of one fellow in his late fifties (which seems to be when we chaps are apt to begin a second childhood) who suddenly and quite unexpectedly told his wife that he was divorcing her to marry a younger woman in the Philippines whom he had met through one of those international dating sites.

They got divorced, sold the house, and he spent tens of thousands of dollars on the chick in the Philippines. I think that he may have even bought her family a house in the Philippines.

He sponsored her on a fiancée visa, and, in the end, she didn't show up. She married someone else in a different country.

He got what he deserved, but his poor wife certainly didn't deserve what he did to her.

Good question.

And why is arrantpariah so obsessed with this subject? He authored this thread, and he comandeered another thread recently on the same topic.

No good marriage ever ended in divorce. She must have contributed something to its end.

But you're right about the man - he definitely got what he deserved - an empty wallet, a broken promise, and an endless series of alimony payments.

I suspect the reason why some men are interested in the subject of mail order brides is that for the first time these men discover that merely holding American citizenship gives them the virtual power of a millionaire in their ability to select the youngest most attractive wife.

While this is no doubt true and not only that a very savvy man could also get a wife that holds a Doctorate degree which would be a financial asset.

Nevertheless while a young wife could provide a form of immortality through reproduction, true immortality can only be achieved through unconditional love which does not regard age or beauty.
