This morning again. Aaarf I can't stand it. This is just so ridiculous and absurd to me. A 29 year old man being told to get out of bed every day by his mom. 'Max, it's 7 am, Time to get ouuutttt'.

My Lord.

"Normal" is hard to pin down in families as there is such a broad spectrum of family dynamics, and we often see how our own family operates as normal and how other families operate as weird. Normal or not, I dare say it certainly isn't unusual for a grown man who lives with his parents to have this kind of relationship with them. The issue is more about how suitable he is for independent living. It looks like he is still attached to his mother's apron strings, and if the pair of you were to live together, he may well except you to take over the duties his mother used to do for him. If you don't want to be his mother that can cause conflict. That is again a fairly normal scenario. Some males end up as "mummies boys" the same way some girls end up as "daddies girl". I suppose it only becomes unhealthy if one of the people in the relationship isn't happy with those roles. As well as expecting you to be his surrogate mother he maybe also end up being the type that calls his mum 10 times a day and turns to her for everything where you may feel he should turn to you. Alas you may never find out how he will behave as an independent person until he does indeed move into his own place.

No, they don't. It isn't seen as a failing for a man to live with his parents until he's married, and it isn't seen as a failing to remain single well into one's thirties. This is partly cultural, and partly due to high housing costs.

What? I really think you are mixing up different places. Yes, being single = ok, living with your mom = contempt.

It's only the housing crisis that might affect this, the older generations are trying to wrap their heads around the new reality.
