On a slightly different tack, the rest of the (NT) world presents dating as if it were simple and fun. I think that even they find it difficult and frustrating, they just pretend it isn't.

IF I meet someone, which happens super rarely, there is the immediate set of issues: Is the person loud and outgoing? Relationship fail, most likely. Do they smoke? Darn, not gonna work. Are they significantly politically opposite me?

I view dating like trouble-shooting, in that some things are negotiable and can be flexible, some really cannot. The odds of just getting past level one diagnostic are daunting, then you have to figure out level two: do we actually enjoy each other's company and can we manage activities together? Argh.

I hate that too, people acting like dating is the most fun hobby to have and singles have the time of their life. The wild success stories get the most attention and the many failures are often not shared.

I seem to be more OK with bigger differences with a future significant other as I see excitement and opportunity for growth. But it seems a rather useless attitude since I've never met anyone looking for somebody really different than herself.

I would recommend to avoid politics as a subject when dating. It can get emotional. If it's unavoidable keep it cool and moderate, shed a light on both sides of the political struggle.

You have a point, there, Herr Doctor. I know by now that I am looking for a certain degree of similar. Relationships are so much work even when you are very compatible, when there are BIG differences, it is just miserable. Politics usually come up quickly, not sure why. Again, depends on degree of disagreement. But to find a partner who can be my mostly companion, I have to be able to relax in the presence of a like mind. A very difficult prospect indeed.

Sometimes its hard to tell, I mostly interracially date so black women who mainly date white guys whether they show it or not its hard to describe but you can tell this person only likes people like you thus its a little heads up for me.

I remember watching a news program and watching a very liberal black woman get interviewed by right wing conservative. As he is talking giving his view points and she is disagreeing there was this look she was giving him that I completely understood it was like she was saying, "I hate your white ass but want to #### the #### out of you" a couple months later I looked her out and yeah she only is with white guys.
