Thanks EZ, I'll try not to ramble too much myself.

I think that's also sort of what my thread is about. Without this concept of "chosen family" my life would be a train wreck because without them, there simply wouldn't be any motivation to survive. My immediate family pretty much trashed my prospects of ever having normal relationships but at least I have some.

There is one older woman who's quite appreciative of me but last I checked she has a long time BF. She's a great friend anyway. I really should check in on her.

I'm sick of the nascent pressure on all of us to judge people on their personal nature. I'm writing here as a reminder to myself to appreciate people for who they are rather than some projection of who we should all be.

You are so right. What a dull world it would be if we were all alike. Let's just be ourselves and not conform to some projection which is like saying, "when I reach such and such a point everything will be perfect".

I'd probably be worm food right now if not for someone who conforms to exactly none of my expectations. Literally most things she does surprise me. I'm profoundly disturbed by the billions invested in keeping us all from thinking on each others' terms.

I have zero interest in the culture I live in. I only follow technology in order to teach people how to stop it from manipulating us. Instead of using the immense computational power that fits in our hands now, postmodern oligarchs are leveraging it to use us. I know it's going to take everyone in my life some time to wake up to such a reality but that only makes my work in the meantime that much more imperative.

Technology is a two edged sword. It has a good side and the sharing of ideas is imperative. In the past, communities were insular and very little or no sharing of outside ideas took place. Theoretically, we should all be more open minded and tolerant of differences nowadays. But some use the Internet to spread their own agendas. It's so important that we think for ourselves, using both 'old" and state of the art resources to draw our conclusions.

Technology shouldn't be used as an instrument of conformity aimed at producing robotic thinking.

To be fair, I'm not trying to generalize technology as the root cause of my isolation; the electronics community is very good to me. What I'm more troubled by is the greed, double standards and subversion in digital communications. Facebook is just awfully mean & many of its' alternatives are even worse. Just once I want to see a successful social network that's actually about connecting everyone. I'm also somewhat averse to reaching or jumping to conclusions about anyone.

Eerie how at least 3 of us can relate to this.

That must mean there are enough of us to suggest courses of action to get closer to people.

Most assuredly not

Twitter may be even worse.

It's not a race to the bottom however, these are codependent monopolies invested in distorting our perceptions of ourselves & everyone else. The U.S. is controlled by ambiguous fear mongering that's mostly done through these media sources.

Everyone's getting more & more paranoid about each other, I see it all the time. I like the parts of the Internet that are actually for learning. I need better ways to show people those.

I'm well aware that my hacker sensibilities can put everyone to sleep for now; I'm saving those habits & skills for the immediate future, it seems like sooner or later I'll be an indispensable asset whereas at present, I'm simply a reminder about problems most people don't want to face yet.
