I don’t wanna know how many thousands of francs I would’ve saved if I let other men pay the alcohol I was drinking when going out.

could be wrong though

I was under the impression all nightclubs were primarily "Meat Markets" <seriously>

Whenever I’m on a thread in L&D, like this one, the banner ad at the bottom informs me that I can “meet Ukrainian ladies now!”. Never see it when I’m in other fora: GAD I get “online diagnosis” ones, PPR usually either gambling or tarot readings. Anyone else observing patterns in the ad placements?

I only get ads, err, advertising gay sex enhancement products. <joke>

Yes Karamazov is correct, Britain has a lot of traditional drinking establishments that culturally the centre of the local town area. There may be a cover charge if there's a band or stand up comedy but it's usually optional. Rather than meat markets they are just where locals meet up for a pint and a yarn.

In Australia public bars aren't really that sophisticated. I have never been in an Australian bar where i felt welcome, You just go in and drink and "rack off:". Nightclubs have techno music and light shows, from what I know it hasn't changed since the mid 1990s when I stopped going. There isn't much memorable about these places other than your bank balance gets depleted without realising.

As you indicated, bars and nightclubs are different.

"Pubs" are very heavily social, rather than pick up places, based on my limited experience.
I am still convinced "Nightclubs" are "Meat Markets".
But I am merely speculating here because I have only seen people walk in and out of them and watched movie events.

Not sure.
1970?
1980?

Australia was very socially backward 50 years ago.

am thinking the release of the movie "urban cowboy" [1980] might have had something to do with it.

The regular ones have the tendency to be "Meat Markets", yes.

But there are other nightclubs, like "underground", that are primary for people that are after a certain music genres.
And you go there primary for the music, and less for the chicks.
But I'm not a man, so whatever

Now that I think about it,
I did go to *one* Goth oriented music venue.
Though I didn't consider it to be a nightclub.
It was when I was in my 20s.

I guess my definition of a "Nightclub" involves bouncers at the front "Vetting" who goes in.

Its funny because my experience of nightclubs in Australia from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s was that the women would come in groups (either girls night out or mixed group of men and women) and protect each other from single men. Never met a male who picked up in nightclubs but I am sure it happened.

My recollection is girls who got drunk in pubs/bars who went of with a guy they didn't know were called slappers. There were groups I was aware of (and occasionally mixed with) where girls would sleep men from clubs but they always seem to know these men (what I called Fubus). I think Australian girls weren't that adventurous those days to have one night stands with total strangers?

It's possible clubs changed in the 2000s and it became more of a meat market due to the influence of hip-hop culture?. Somebody younger might be able to answer that question.
