A steady relationship with multiple people would still presumably spread less STDs than someone going round having loads of random one night stands though.

I just don't like the idea of "going out" with more than one person.

It doesnt appeal to me at all. Introducing more people into my life regardless of the nature of the relationship isnt for me. Aside from my family I only have two friends (known them since Primary School) that in normal times I see once or at most twice a year. Adding more people in an intimate way in addition to my wife sounds like hell.

A whole nested polyamorous society would lead to a STD pandemic disaster.

There’s no guarantee that one of the 3-4 poly circle wouldn’t have a relation with someone in another poly circle and so on.

Depends on what kind of erotic activity the partners engage in, in the first place, as well as on whether they take the relevant safety precautions, e.g. condoms.

Some poly people do PIV and/or oral sex with just one partner, and do other kinds of erotic activity (kink/fetish) with other partners. Such arrangements are equivalent to monogamy as far as exposure to other people's body fluids is concerned.

No PIV or oral (they also couldn't kiss)..... then what do they do?

What are your thoughts on non-monogamous relationships? Polyamory is a more recent term that means numerous loves. Basically, a married couple can have a gf/bf or numerous gf's/bf's. Non-married couples can have numerous partners as well. Usually the relationships aren't just sexual; they're also romantic and emotional relationships. Any sexual orientation can be Polyamorous; usually the most common sexual orientations that are polyamorous are bisexual, gay male/ male homosexual, and heterosexual. Polygamy is usually one man many wives, or one woman many husbands, but I can see homosexual polygamous relationships being a thing, if it wasn't mainly a religious thing. Usually Mormons or Muslims are the groups that marry different women or men. Even though Christianity looks down upon this type of relationship, Mormonism is the only sect of Christianity that practices Polygamy. There's also different types of non-monogamous relationships like swinging, which is usually a couple having sexual relationships with other couples. Open relationships are different, which is a main couple having a relationship with another another person, which is a secondary relationship. Discuss your opinions here.

Polygamy sounds really appealing to me but I would never do it personally.

Being autistic, I would find being polyamorous mentally exhausting.
Not interested. 8)

I concede that people that engaged in polyamory back in the day would be spreading STIs, because they lacked the knowledge we do about STI transmission, outside of the fact that sex was involved. But can modern people, who are properly educated, safely practice polyamory? I'd argue yes.

Praying lol.

Like seriously, maybe condom is most useful for men having sex with prostitutes; ham bam finish... no kissing, no touching, no oral, how boring. Also useful for pregnancy prevention without a pill (still risky).

While some STDs are basically transmitted via sperm, it’s not realistic to see sex with condom as totally safe unless the only allowed activity is penetration.

Still exclusivity is the best prevention, even within a poly relationship - though it’s harder to maintain it in one.

Mona mentioned kink/fetish, and I took that to mean, spanking, bondage, dom/sub (D/s, or does that stand for discipline/spanking?). Offbeat practices that are not commonly done for sex. Kink is more about psychology, head-trip and role-playing but it can really mean a great deal of things, it's a difficult word to pin down on UrbanDictionary. Yes, pretty much any real fetish would be safe sex, like you won't catch anything from bondage except maybe rope burn.

Until then, here is some food for thought. :jester:
