While I agree with the communication part, what you said is the exact opposite of what I believe.

I've know girls with similar personalities to myself. I never particularly liked any of them. It came down to being too much of what I already was and I don't want a clone of myself around. Also in some cases their beliefs/interests conflicted with mine too much. It wouldn't work.

I think it's better for a couple to have complimenting personalities that can strengthen each other, but from my experience it still better to look for common interests/beliefs first.
