I'm going to make a rather sketchy comment here-

I don't believe anyone who truly has AS has been successful in marriage without giving up part of what makes them AS.

'Giving up what makes them AS'? Isn't that a good thing for most people because it is a hindrance to them as a part of society?

At this stage AS defines who I am and I wouldn't trade it. But I know there's a few elements of it I'd gladly give up.

How can I possibly have "given up part of what makes [me] AS"?

Isn't that a little like "giving up" part of what makes me mammalian? Or sentient?

AS isn't just a pattern of behaviors; it's an underlying difference in neuroanatomy that gives rise to those behaviors. You can try to suppress them, but they'll come out in some other form.

In point of fact, one of the things that makes my marriage successful is that my wife has never asked me to suppress any part of my personality - after all, it was aspie ol' me that she fell in love with in the first place...

-My autism:I don't know how to communicate with people face-to-face.
-My bitter view: I see the world with a very biological/realistic view, every human behavior has an evolutionary purposes. Magical words like Love and soulmate are no more than chemical reactions in the brain. I even believe that a great part of every human's history is written on his own DNA. Marriage is just an artificial bond which is against the natural selection rules.
-My shortness:My height is 163 cm which makes me very short , studies show that short men have very seldom romance in their lives.
-My looks: I am not ugly but I don't have masculine looks,I look weak. Biologically,I am born as an omega male.

Well, at least you can change your view, so it's not completely hopeless.

what about the other four reasons?

My AS friend married an NT girl, it lasted a few years because his traits can be severe at times.

One thing at a time. Let's work on that attitude first. :)

i do think your wrong. obviously the nt would have to really understand and love you for you.

I am 16 years old. ive been in a few relashoionships (with nts) but they all ended horribly. i believe it was because none of them ever understood me. However i do believe there is someone out there.

I dont even know anybody else whos as aspie (apart from you guys on wp i guess but yoo know!)

I think Nts and aspies do get married. Things have changed over the years after all. The only thing im questioning is that if a nt and aspie do get married is do they have children who are also aspies? That is all im questioning.

much love
xx

Only had the one child, Angelgirl, and she's a Kanner's autistic. One data point isn't nearly enough to reach a conclusion; however, since evidence strongly suggests a genetic component to autism (current suspects are on chromosomes 2, 11, and 16), it would be reasonable to conclude that an aspie has a higher-than-average chance of having a child on the spectrum.

I've found, though, that it's been a blessing for my daughter - since I'm on the spectrum but able to speak, I get to intervene with the NTs on her behalf, explaining things like sensory overstimulation and the role of stimming in mental stability. :)

i'll tel straight out I haven't read any other replies. I am in a prettty permanent realationship with my gf. I like her a lot and can live with her from day to day without wanting to pull my hair out. She is in love with me, and I am with her, but my feeling of love is defiantly not as strong as I think it should be. I've just settled that my "relational feelings" as na's might. And my gf IS non-aspie she has bi-polar as do I so there is a bit of a connection there she has a lot of aspie friends so i think that helps.
Hope I helped somewhat.

Well, my father did (he's stereotypical AS), for obvious reasons. It didn't last, but then, not much does.

I'm sure there are AS/NT marriages. There are AS/AS marriages, too, including a couple from WP.

I don't know if my dad is AS but he is close. My mom is slightly unhinged aswell. They've been together for about 30 years now...

There are a lot of eccentrics on my dad's side of the family, but I am the only diagnosed Aspie.

Yes, I think Aspies can get married, especially borderline Aspies. As the old saying goes, there's somebody for just about everybody.
