That's good, because without them I can only see a couple of feet in front of me clearly. Further beyond is blurry as hell.

I'm the same way.
My own prescription is x axis -11.25, y axis -0.75. Yeah.....I could probably set things on fire, too....although that could be a cool party trick....
For those of you who have strong prescriptions (like I do) I might recommend getting high index or ultra-high-index lenses on a small pair of frames. Been going that route for years, and even though they may cost more, it's worth the investment in my opinion.
