I get all of those things to a certain extent when I am in the high end of "normal" BMI wise.

Asthetically, I should actually keep the weight on, but I feel much better when I'm carrying less fat.

Being thin physically feels good, you don't have to do it just to please the opposite sex...

I remember once when I'd manage to starve myself down to the 150's, and I *had* to leave the house for the grocery to get some things.
Ended up throwing up in the parking lot and had to get one of those old people/disabled scooters because I would faint if I tried to stand up.
I was shaking, and my hair had started to fall out, and I had these huge blue circles under my eyes.

That trip to the grocery store, I swear I had more men hit on me than I'd had in the 18 years prior.

8O You don't have to starve yourself like that to be thin... :?

Calories in/out and common sense works too...

No, I have to starve myself like that to even be overweight, as opposed to obese.

Oh wow! Counting calories?
I never thought of that in a lifetime of it being chanted at me by people who weren't ten pound newborns and 150 lb sixth graders.
It would seem it's sometimes ineffective, in that you can have a high negative net calorie intake for years and still stay obese.

Thanks though.

Yeah, I hate when people tell me "just watch your calories." If it was that simple I would never have been fat in the first place. :?

Sorry, I have to fight "middle-aged man gut" and I do it by counting calories. Just suggesting what works for me...

I can't remember when last I ate enough calories a day that they would NEED counting...

I don't know anyone who is fat and remains fat solely by chucking burgers, pies, pizzas, lager and chips down their necks all day.

I'm sure there are a few,
but in my experience, fat people are vigilant about what they eat, because they know no matter what it is, they'll be judged for eating it.

It makes me wonder if it's actually worth bothering trying to lose weight because it's much as you say.

If you eat steak and have a beer, you're fat.
If you have a steak and have four beers, you're fat and disgusting.
If you're having a salad, you're trying to cover up for your overindulgence and being fat, and are ashamed of being fat, thereby making you a target for more abuse.

It really grips my s**t.

No, no, a fat person having a salad is acceptable- it shows they're appropriately-ashamed of their grotesque fattiness and at least repent for having subjected the world to the sight of their corpulence.

They then say that you don't exercise enough, even if you probably exercise more than they do.

This really is comparable to Theory of Mind concepts-
people project the way their body works on to other people,
and in that paradigm, it's perfectly rational to judge or blame a fat person,
because the only way THOSE people would be fat is if they were gluttonous/lazy/stupid/whatever.

If a skinny girl eats a burger, people think "wow she can eat and eat and never gain a pound."
If a skinny girl eats a salad, people think "why is she eating a salad? She doesn't need to lose weight."
If a fat girl eats a burger, people think "ewwww, eat a salad."
If a fat girl eats a salad, people think "is she trying to lose weight? Well, she's gonna have to try harder than that."

Basically, people will judge you regardless of what you eat because people suck. The end. :P

LOL Erisad that was both 100 true and hilariously funny, though I'm aware you didn't mean it like that. Am I right in thinking it was intended as a bitter rant?

I'm not laughing at the fat girls who are feeling judged. I'm laughing at the idiotic judgmental morons.

They have to hate something. Doesn't have to be fat people. It could be anyone under the 'denormalised' banner - i.e. those people in those groups whom it is "OK" to denormalise.
