Kraftie: would people in her situation read books =.=?
the book reminds me of "Lolita"...it's incredible authors can take such subjects and make 'art' out of them. Keep the core idea and mold it and change it.

Idle: going on walks of fresh air might be an idea to improve health...

Celie was going to school early in the book---so she could read at least somewhat. She probably wasn't given access to books early in the book--but by the time she established herself in her sewing business, she probably had access to books.

I am thinking about buying a ukelele.

Ukelele music is always nice--especially on a cold winter's day. One could fantasize about Hawaii!

I'm a ukulele player; they're wonderful little instruments, and it's easier to learn basic chords than it is for a guitar. If you're interested, I suggest picking one up.

LOL...Coordination/motivation problems caused me to abandon guitar lessons at age 9. I was into the "gross motor" thing then.

But now, that I'm a bit older, maybe I'll buy a ukulele one day!

I tried to learn how to play guitar once, but I was frustrated by the fingering and how short the distance was between strings, so I told everybody I was going to take up the bass instead. Well, four years later, and I still haven't bought a bass. At this point, if I do anything with music, it's more likely going to involve being a producer, rather than being a performer. I've thought a lot about starting a punk band though, just because I like the idea of going nuts on stage and not playing with any sort of talent.

I play the mandolin (my hands feel too small for guitar) but the uke just looks like it is a very easy instrument to pick up. I might give it a go.

I want to try the bass but I want to play the upright bass, which is kind of a monster to move.

I enjoyed playing recorder in school. I have thought of picking that up again.

I am finally feeling better, but still want some hot tea.
