Is it something else? I wouldn't class anything not that as metal. I'm probably wrong.

You are wrong. This is metal:

Metal has many, many subgenres.

Oh come on, I made a crap moog joke right at the start. :P

And to the other poster, I agree, slipknot is crap. I'd rather listen to fingernails on a blackboard.

My advice is: dress like you're in a band, say you're in a band, carry a mix cd and say they're your covers versions of the songs.

Get them drunk, promise coke later.

That's a lot of lying and deception, not really comfortable with that...

I was obviously joking...that only worked for River Phoenix.

You know the kind. Hot but they never smile, they look at everyone with contempt, they are mean to geeks and those they consider 'weak'. Anyway most chicks that listen to metal seem like a very... Cold, bunch. They are always pissed off at someone, they are in a bad mood, they point at something and say "This sucks."

How are you supposed to flirt with these strange creatures?

Just to do away slightly with this stereotype, I am a "metal chick", if you would wish to phrase it like that and people are incredibly surprised that I [i]am[i/] a metal chick. Apparently I come across much more as someone who would like folk or happy music and apparently, despite my autism, am quite outgoing and very friendly. I am into a whole load of music including folk, classical, some pop, ballads, soul, blues, jazz, rock and indeed, metal. Metal/heavy rock is one of more favourite types of music at the moment, so I do think of myself as a metal fan, but do not fall under the stereotype, I am sure that many people out there do not.

Why can't there be more girls with your music tastes around? Plus you seem like a nice person, the ones I met are evil. :)

I didn't say they were all like that. But the ones I met, you know with the black leather and all they were like "What bands do you like?" so I list a couple of metal bands and then I move on to other genres and she goes "You're pathetic, I only talk to people who like good music and that means listen only to metal." then another chick told me "You don't dance to metal you idiot", at last one pushed me and went "Dress f***ing nice when you come to a club like this"... (By nice she meant not wearing jeans and an oxford shirt and a pair of moccasins...)

So yeah, there are many chicks like that it seems.

Why bother trying to flirt with them? They're unpleasant people, and I imagine if you do get somewhere with one you'd be miserable.

It's a shame some people think musical taste defines a person.

It never totally defines a person, but it can say quite a bit......I honestly cannot imagine having a good relationship with someone who has horrible taste in music because I am really into music so listening to music I can enjoy with someone I have a good connection with is quite amazing to me. Now I would not try and be a jerk to a guy with terrible taste in music if they approach me but yeah I do admit that plays a role in if I want to attempt a relationship with someone.

Music can help build a connection with someone, but I just can't imagine not wanting to talk to someone because I don't like their taste in music. It seems a bit shallow to me... sort of like people that disregard those that don't dress a certain way.

Well i am not going to refuse to talk to someone if I don't like their taste in music, but considering how important music is to me its important that I pursue relationships with people I can listen to music with.

 I assure you, most girls into metal are not the hard-core metal-heads you speak of. Those are just the loud minority.

I used to really want to meet a cool girl who was into good metal without being covered with tattoos and piercings and into too much hard partying since that kinda turns me off. But between the fact that metal's not popular where I am (especially the kinds I like most, and especially with women) and that I'm not into the "scene" at all, and that I don't consider musical compatibility to be as important as I used to... oh well. I've been into metal since I was 14, and I've been into just about every subgenre, and I've never dated a girl who liked metal. Maybe it'd be different if I was in Europe where metal (especially good metal) is more mainstream :chin:
