On the positive side, people in arranged marriages go into it with lower expectations than a love marriage so they're more likely to be happier. They also have similar goals, values, beliefs and can generally be very family orientated. The main thing that makes an arranged marriage so successful is valuing logic over emotional desire and putting family first. For it to work however, both people need to be prepared to have a strong sense of understanding, compromise and mutual respect for each other.

Ugh....I can't imagine being matched by someone else and having to actually sleep with someone I might not be attracted to. I have enough sensory issues that even when I really do find someone attractive it can get in the way. 8O

I could handle an arranged marriage if i could trust the people setting it up for me. I wouldn;t be happy with my family making the choices, i like them but they don't know me that well, not the real me. Only i know what im looking for and i don;t talk to people about things like that. I think setting a marriage up as a business arrangement would suit me, if i could respect a girl enough to set something like that up with love would come without doubt, being able to set up something like that would probably be an attractive trait for me. I choose the girls i like via my brain rather than my heart anyway, attraction comes after working people out. I've come to realise that i'd love to have kids and it's crap that ill probably miss out on, sign me up!

See, I wish it were this easy to find a partner. I am of the belief that relationships are not about love, passion, and attraction but commitment, shared values, and a dedication to work through any issues that may occur. I am very old fashioned in that I believe in the pioneer family way of life, families need to bond together -us against the world- everyone needs to function as a unit for the good and survival of the whole. Trying to find partners who aren't immersed in the "It's all about me and I'm out for myself" mentality that our generation perpetuates...it's almost a statistical impossibility these days.

I completely agree with all that

I would also like to add that I'd like to find a man who welcomes the opportunity to be a father, have a mini van and doesn't mind a woman who takes charge of the running of her home, care of her children, and incessant holiday decorating >_> Ya know, just like back in the day...minus the minivan part. The home is the woman's domain. I'm not sexist...I'm a woman !

We're wrong for each other now. I don't want kids, cant drive due to low vision, I'd like to help with household chores partly because I have disabilities that make it very difficult for me to find employment so I'd like to contribute by helping with housework & I'm kind of the opposite of a typical masculine or traditional stereotype guy in lots of other ways too

Awww, alas, the possibility of partnership thwarted before it had the chance to begin.

Although, I am never opposed to having help with household chores...I just like being in control of the look of my surroundings... I am very particular about my environmental aesthetics...if I'm somewhere for too long that does not meet my expectations of how the environment should look...I get rather antsy.

But yes, I plan to have children, children, and more children one day, which finding a partner who believes in that value these days...not easy.

I'm not into decorating or really care how my environment looks so I wouldn't have a problem letting my partner do it but I have too many disabilities/issues/differences to be having kids. BTW Toad is a pretty good guy. He reminds me of a younger version of myself in some ways

I think people nowadays usually do not marry out of love, but out of physical attraction, and thinking if things do not work the way they want, they can always divorce. Those are not good foundations to start a family. I think that's why arranged marriages can work. All you need is commitment from both sides to make things work. When yo have a child, you do not know him, but you love him anyway. You love him because he is your child. You do not care if the child is ugly or beautiful, if there is chemistry or not, you love him anyway. Why cant it work the same way with the person you "choose" to spend the rest of your life with? Its all about decisions and commitment.

This I tend to agree with. If only more people agreed and weren't looking for 'the one' or some other disillusionment from fairy tales at or around the time of childhood.
