I remember my prom. Instead of dates me and my mates brought lots of alcohol.
And we got very drunk.
And that's all I remember.

A party, drinkup, club night, or whatever available alternative is no less tacky than a prom. it just comes without the title, meaning, effort, expense, or sense of occasion

I like proms, I think in my school there wasn't any emphasis put on "dates", it was just groups of friends mostly and whatever couples there was at the time.

And lol putting down people's cultures indeed, you're allowed to not like something that happens to be from a culture other than yours. I can't stand bullfights and they're a Spanish thing, oh noes!

Lots of people at my prom went solo, or went as a group.

I went with an freshmen from the swimming team. Platonic of course, but it was fun.

*looks at picture*....can't he just do more useful things with his time? I mean a prom must be a real I.Q. killer.

Why do you believe that it's sad that prom exists??

Because they provide irrefutable evidence that Americans are every bit the whining hypocrites the rest of the world already presumes us to be....

Quote:
Average prom cost tops $1,000 per teen

A new survey from Visa Inc. shows that the average American family with teenagers plans to spend $1,078 -- that's for each child -- on the prom, a 33.6 percent increase over the $807 spent last year.

And those in the lower income brackets, less than $50,000, plan to spend even more -- $1,307 per child, the survey found. And those in the very lowest bracket, under $20,000, plan to spend $1,200 -- more than 6 percent of their annual income.

But the most staggering number came from those families earning between $20,000 and $30,000, who plan to spend an average of $2,635, which would represent almost 9 percent of annual income for those making $30,000. Those families are just above the federal poverty level, which is $23,050 for a family of four.

Maybe once upon a time it was a cute rite of passage, but that once upon a time is long gone. As best I can tell, it has become nothing but another insane exercise of conspicuous consumption, from a population spending money it does not have on something it can in no way afford.

To quote H.L.Mencken, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

at first glance, i would assume he was preventing himself from falling over backward.

with a second glance, it seems to me that the hand is not real. it is not well proportioned at all if it is real.

i think that he is wearing a "prop coat" (or whatever one would call it) which has fake arms and hands stitched into it. the region between his left shoulder and left elbow seems devoid of bulk that is inconsistent with the reasonable chubby face structure.

the stretch folds in the fabric of his sleeves further convinces me that they are not real arms or hands.
the thumb is too large, and the fingers are in an ungainly position.

i am almost certain it is a "joke jacket" (if there is such a description) but the man looks tired and bored i think.
