From some of your other postings, I thought that this wasn't going to happen.

Well, maybe you could consider examining Miss Varra's techniques.

It seems to be between ValentineWiggin and Sweetcakes.

What do they have to do to win?

Herbivore Problem = Plan to marry a non alcoholic dude who isn't violent and likes older woman?

This is definitely a needle in a haystack article.

I have a neighbor who could actually teach a class in this area.

When she met her first husband, she was an 18-year-old bargirl in Madrid, who didn't speak any English. He was a tall, handsome, well-paid engineer, working in Spain for an American company.

Eventually, he brought her to the USA, and they bought the house next door.

A few years later, they divorced, and she kept the house, and received some very generous child-support payments. The man's sister complained that he wasn't able to save any money for his own retirement--so much of his paycheck was going to her.

She went through a series of boyfriends, and eventually snagged herself a millionaire. She has moved to live with him, and now rents out her house.

She isn't a physically-attractive woman. She has almost no figure, and could be mistaken for a boy. Plus, she smokes, so her skin is prematurely wrinkly.

But, she is very smart, and quite adept at using her feminine wiles to her advantage.

^^^1000Knives, i think it can work, but there are definitely a lot of different reasons people are seeking foreign brides.

about the misogyny... at my job, i have seen at least 20 couples in that situation (no idea why there are so many customers in that demographic. there are also a lot of pregnant female customers). a few times, i've almost spoken up to the husband because he's been treating his wife so badly in the store. i never end up bothering because the wives don't speak enough english to understand what i'm saying, and anyways, they probably wouldn't appreciate someone making a fuss.

there is something odd about the power dynamic between some couples if one of them thinks they are doing the other one a favour by bringing them to canada to live. a person who thinks they are rescuing someone else will not put that person on an equal level with them. obviously that's not the case for many (or most?) foreign bride situations, but it is definitely a noticeable problem.

I would be extremely reluctant to enter into one of those relationships. I would get the feeling the person was marrying me for my citizenship. A man I know who was born in Vietnam and became a citizen in the US met a woman on one of his visits to the old country. He brought her over, married her, and she got her citizenship papers started. One day, without warning she disappeared. Soon after that he received divorce papers. She knew exactly how long she had to stay married to him to reap the benefit of his citizenship. (We called the INS and everything she did was legal). Word got back to this guy (the Vietnamese community is small and word travels fast) that now she had legal status, she was bringing her boyfriend over from Vietnam so that they could live the American Dream together. A cautionary tale, for those considering going abroad for a mate.

Protecting one's assets with a well-written prenuptial agreement would be very important. It is when entering any marriage, but especially one of these.

It does seem that, in general, women are more interested in marriage at an earlier age than men.

There is also the classic Nancy Reagan trick: get pregnant, and then make him feel obligated to marry you.
