Actually it's because dating sites are one-sided social networking websites. I tried one about a week ago for the first time ever, and it seems sort of like a one-sided Facebook. lol

If the woman doesn't fancy the man what is she to do? If she sends a reply it can often get into a potential argument with the man that can end unpleasantly so not replying is just a straightforward way of saying no thanks. I've sent messages to men who haven't replied and it didn't bother me. Zoosk expects people to pay a subscription before you are able to reply to messages or chat - that is why I don't reply as I don't want to pay and it's not letting me reply for free.
You are mainly going to hear the hard luck stories from dating sites on a discussion forum so it will give an unbalanced view of them.

It's just that FB has profile features that resemble dating sites like setting status to "single" and "interested in women" among other things. Actual dating sites seem like a one-way/one-sided version of FB except people have way less photos on their profile.

Also, I've sent like 18 messages(3 replies), and every single one was non-dating/non-sexual related. For example, I sent a girl a message asking which video game systems she plays after seeing video games in her profile. And she didn't reply of course.

I'M THINKING ABOUT IT!! !! !

Because girls will always assume that any question sent by a guy on a dating site, whether it is dating-related or not, would always be as a form of interest. And here we go again with the hotness thing: If she finds you hot (the 20%) then she would reply "OMFG, i play wii tooo!", but if she finds you're yuck then she would ignore you for that very reason (yes, Oktrend showed that girls there have the tendency to either rate guys as hot or as below-average, no middle-ground).
