8O

I definitely know why *I* come off that way. I constantly throw my Mensa status around when I'm in discussions with folks who are clearly my intellectual inferiors, yet who vehemently insist that their (embarrassingly-limited and mostly-erroneous) views on a topic are the correct and most knowledgeable ones. I want them far away from me, so I slide all-too-easily into "elitist, stuck-up, arrogant, ivory-tower-wannabe" b1tch mode. And it's been happening all too frequently, lately... :?

If you feel bad about it then why do you do it? The solution can be so simply sometimes...

I feel bad that most people are so incredibly, arrogantly stupid, yet feel the need to treat me as though I'm an imbecile. Do you think I should let them get away with that, then?

I don't intend to come across like that but I suppose some people still hold prejudice attitudes towards people that are heavily tattooed on their forearms and neck or even people with a muscular physique. It depends on the attitude people hold to be honest.

I think I come across as a pretty decent guy and attitudes on tattoos seem to be a lot more liberal and open. Mostly I have had positives comments about my tattoos and people tend to ask me about them.

Being dressed in black all the time and rarely smiling makes probably makes me come across as slightly cold. I think our intense gaze can also be intimidating, one girl I dated told me that I looked at her as if I was looking into her soul and could see through her.

I often feel people give me no credit at all for my intelligence as I come across in a non-standard way that can often be misjudged as simple or stupid (something 'lesser' at any rate)

It's how we can end up being perceived to be by people who are used to there only being one set way of being but
it is just their individual perception ie not who you actually are so it's far easier to just try and let it slide off your back

You'll waste far too much energy trying to correct each person who misperceives you and life's too short!

Leave them to their misperceptions and just focus on the people who do 'get you'

I don't see it as prejudice, but personal like/dislike.

I think you have a "kind" face, but your body isn't what I would normally be attracted to.

I know. I agree! It's so damned hard for me to put into practice. :?

Me too but I know that is logically the best thing to do

It's ego getting in the way, wanting everyone to think we're brilliant!

Well there are those who associate tattoos with criminals, to me, that's prejudice and narrow minded. Everyone has a preference towards tattoos but there are those who still those who associate it with biker gangs and criminal activity.

In both romantic and social situations, I have come across as creepy and intimidating on some occassions, mainly because of my poor social skills, desparation and lack of experience.

I've learnt to overcome this by thinking things through more optimistically. For example, was it really worth the trouble to chase up this girl who was too shy to even talk to me?

So at this point in the game the only thing I really can think of why I havent dated this far is because most elligable woman must think a handsome man like myself must already be spoken for.

That may actually have some truth to it. Several folks at the gym where I worked until recently suggested the same thing. If people assume, based on your looks, that you "couldn't possibly" be single, then they're not going to approach you. Frustrating. :?

For me, I think it's the fact that I lack the social "strainer" others have. I don't have a point at which I'll cease being honest, or passionate. It may come off as pushy or inappropriate, but hey, what are you gonna do? 8)

everyone tells me I am; I take it as a compliment.

They tell me to "try being less intimidating". My thoughts instead are "try being less cowardly and wishy washy".

now that i think about it i do have times where im walking in an intimidating manner and people literally step out of my way at the near sight of me. Usually when im very pissed off. idk if its the posture, facial expression or the quick long paces.
