I almost met a girl on my trip to LA this July; didn't happen because she said she had other friends that were leaving the area to meet up with instead.

Yep, met the love of my life on POF.

To be fair, it was probably a fluke, since there wasn't anyone else on there whose profile inspired me to contact him. Still isn't, in fact - I went back on there last week for the first time in almost two years, and it's the same people. Exactly the same people. They fall into two categories: those I am not the least interested in, and those I might be vaguely interested in, except their profiles clearly state they would not be interested in someone like me - their requirements sound like they want a Barbie doll. I have neither the physique nor the wardrobe of a Barbie doll.

I'm in pretty good shape for my age, but I definitely don't have the body of a Victoria's Secret model, which most of these guys apparently think they're entitled to. I'm picky, too, but my requirements have to do with personality traits, not how someone looks or dresses or how much money they have.

There are also a lot of men around my age who are specifically looking for a woman in her 20s or 30s. WTF does a 60-yr-old man have to talk about with a 25-yr-old?

I doubt it's about the talking. I think for most men it's about physical attraction, that doesn't necessarily mean it's only about one thing.

It's pretty much the same with women on there too. The string of requirements gets much worse in the 40 to 60 age range... All the profiles that match my search criteria seem years out of date and probably haven't logged on in years or don't have pictures. I prefer women within 10 or 15 years of my age (preferably on the younger side) but that seems to be the pickiest age group. Some put real narrow age ranges making it impossible for anyone a few years older to contact them despite having lots in common. I actually prefer larger women to skinny or athletic.
