I keep hearing mention of dressing well. What is dressing well? For males and females?

Dressing well - I put something on my body which could hide some specific spots intensionally to protect my body from being stared and from dust.

I actually have a hard time figuring out what is appropriate to wear for someone of my age and gender. I have to spend some time staring at other people to figure it out, because I just don't notice otherwise.

To me dressing well is wearing clothes that fit well, are clean and not worn-out, match, and aren't really out of style or inappropriate.

Are you saying there's more to it than that? I can't even tell what matches, let alone be aware of the current fashion trends.

White male privilege is a myth these days, it might have applied 20/30 years ago, but not anymore. Being born socially competent, extremely attractive, and into wealth on the other hand are very real privileges.

There's a reason I'm hiking the pacific crest trail this summer, so I can get away from societal standards.

I can't wear what I want to wear - overheat too easily I'm afraid. So I wear simple clothes. Polished black boots, plain black cargo plants, and a plain blue or purple polo shirt. I'd see nothing unattractive about anyone else, man or woman, wearing the same clothes.

Maybe it still does apply today, but only if you're a republican majoring in business. It's a very different world in LAS and Design.

It really depends. I mean, if I was interested in a goth or punk rock woman, I doubt that the latest smart-casual look would cut it. There's an acceptance of the scruffy or well-worn in those circles that would raise eyebrows of shock if one were going for the more chic, hyper-fashion minded woman. Yet there will be better and worse ways to dress within those cultures.

I've tended to pick a look and keep to it. I can't 'fit in' in any culture, but I can go with what I like, copying from here and there at first until I develop an eye over time for what works and what doesn't.

To me it's clean clothes that are kept in well-presented condition and don't hugely mismatch.

Yes, much more. I'm great with matching clothing, but horrible with recognizing and keeping up with fashion trends. I tend to notice what's fashionable at the last minute. And I never know what's appropriate for my age group. The women in my area all seem to have some secret agreement to all wear the same fashions, hairstyles, and handbags. I have no idea what to wear usually. And I like to be comfortable.

Sorry, but I do have to be attracted to someone and someone who has gray hair and wrinkles reminds me of my father. It's my personal preference, so go roll your eyes at someone else.

 Right back at you.

The idea that it's harder for men is just laughable. Maybe very few men who are obsessed with their appearances, and I doubt there's loads of peer pressure involved with that. I can't imagine the extreme pressure that so many women go through on a daily basis. All I do is shower twice a day, comb my hair a little and shave if I start to look too scruffy. I haven't gotten a haircut in almost a year now, last time was last February. I might also use deodorant if I plan to do strenuous activities or go somewhere I might be concerned about my possible smell. I can't stand body sprays and cologne, all I smell is chemical soup and it gives me a headaches.
