I mean: I'm sure Kitty is a great person and all---but why would somebody pay for her drinks/meals if they WEREN'T interested in her? It doesn't make sense to me.

Provided that it is the same restaurant where you got paid meals, I suspect that the lady knew about that so simply played along with it. Several people here will probably find that unlikely, but when I was doing similar things with a girl I had a crush on, several of her friends gladly involved in it too. They probably participated because they found it interesting and wanted to help her friend. The same scenario was also present in high school and college crushes that never went anywhere.

So my guess is that the lady at least knew about the free meals, and potentially even know the guy behind them.

It's OK to fall in love. I should know a thing or fifty about vetting the 'OK' booleans i need to.
