Personally, I think it's somewhat small minded to only have relationships with people who agree with you politically. We live in a pluralistic society. I tend to often like people who don't agree with me. It's healthy to have your views challenged and to challenge others. I'm a moderate Republican and my wife is a left-leaning Democrat and we get along fine, we just vote differently. Personally, I think it's unhealthy to live in an echo chamber.

I can agree - I couldn't date a girl who was real hard left or real hard Christ-right. Political views do in the end have a lot to do with your construct of how you sense the world around you, your sense of cause and effect, and its one thing when you have a Republican dating a Democrat or anything other where they're both very self-controlled people who don't need to talk about it and really mesh well on interpersonal values but if one or the other is real intense and socially uncompromising with it - they're kind of annoying for most people.

That and to the OP, if your libertarian and she was socialist - she had a valid reason BUT, don't let the illusion hit you that she's somehow better than you for it just because she made the first move in that regard.

You say moderate. How far from the centre?
You are probably not too far apart I guess.

My partner sometimes gets fed up with me always being the devils' advocate. If someone agrees with me I naturally argue the opposing position whether I agree with it or not. :)
So I object to 'small minded' :)

I really couldn't imagine wanting to spend my life with someone who is very hard right or very hard left. Why would I?

As far as I am concerned it is not about how you vote but who you are.
Someone who held 'certain views' would probably not have enough in common with me for it to work.

With so many fish in the sea why go for such a low percentage shot?
