I know that the 25th has to do with an attempt to replace European winter celebrations with a more Christian one, with mixed results (meaning elements from the older celebrations remaining or only have received a Christian camouflage). Alto I am not sure about the 7th. Might have to do with that the Orthodox Churches used an older calender for a longer time that was no longer in sync with the actual solar year.
