That's my favourite film, but I it wasn't a comedy, so it doesn't fit this thread.

Partners have cheated, lied, abused, and have made my life hell. And to those that say, "Oh you just haven't found the right one yet" just put a pipe in it. Obviously if I were good enough, would anyone have treated me that way? Of course not. Pretty girls are put on pedestals and girls like me are run into the ground. So yeah, that's why I hate romantic comedies. That, and they're just not that funny. Anyone else agree? :/

I like romance. And I like comedies. However, I've never seen a romantic comedy that I found either romantic OR funny.

^^this.

helps if you don't have a bad view about love in general
to some it is the most wonderful thing in the world because they weren't treated like s**t

Personally, I love romantic comedies, even though I know it'd be impossible for me to date. But, hey, no one's making you watch them, right?

Anyways, good luck finding your supposed significant other. You deserve someone amazing.

Or have had so many partners it doesn't matter. "Which one of them cheated? Was it John? Maybe Peter? Ryan? Oh well, I have Mark now." It's always the pretty and ditsy that are swooped up by someone else as soon as their previous relationship ended. I wait years before anyone even bothers to ask. Usually they don't. D:

@Pageognat - Well, mom was kinda mad that I didn't watch with them. I told her that I hate romantic comedies and didn't feel like dealing with cliched BS. *shrug*

If you haven't seen these two movies yet, watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Mozart and the Whale. I don't know if they fall under the romantic comedy genre, but they were pretty damn cute and realistic (not really comedy though).

i saw the film your family were watching a few days ago and really didn't think it was that bad. although looking at online reviews im probably in the minority. i liked the fact that there were way too many characters to keep up with, i liked julia roberts ending, i liked the crazy in love elderly couple and, well, what's not to like about ashton kutcher.

i agree that you should definately watch eternal sunshine of the spotless mind if you're not keen on the typical romcoms. also Dan in real life, The truth about cats and dogs, Muriels wedding and Secretary. and Harold and Maude is um... different.

I don't like them, either. I really prefer a good action flick or a thriller or mystery movie. That being said, I did enjoy "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" It was a complete shock that I wanted to see it or enjoyed it, because not only was it a romantic comedy but it starred Sarah Jessica Parker and I simply can't stand that woman. (She can't act, she's plain as dishwater and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.) It's about a couple who, on the eve of their divorce, witness a gangland murder and have to go into witness protection together. Shared danger helps them reconnect with each other and they live happily ever after. (And, yeah, it's as unrealistic as any other -- the shared danger might help them bond in the short term, but once they went back to their old lives the same stressors that pulled them apart the first time would still be there.) It' has enough good-natured comedy to be enjoyable, though.

Another movie I've enjoyed recently -- the 1957 version of "Witness for the Prosecution," starring Richard Laughton, Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Powers. It's available on Hulu at the moment. Dietrich is chilling as only she can be, and the interplay between Laughton and the actress who plays the nurse -- Elsa Lanchester -- is priceless. Powers' performance is a bit disappointing, but the rest of the cast is wonderful.
