Agreed.

By BMI standards, I'm in the healthy range. Nothing wrong with me at all.

By Hollywood standards, I'd be practically obese. I'd be heading for some serious lypo or an eating disorder.

Why do so many people think they're "supposed" to look like a movie star and blame the "media" for planting the idea in their head?

All of society tells women they *must* look like a movie star in order to be viewed as pretty. We're also told by society that we aren't worth much unless we are pretty.

It takes a lot of hard work not to buy into it all.

How about Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones's Diary? She looked good. And, I thought Drew Barrymore looked better before she lost weight.

I idolize Kate Winslet in Titanic...I always wished I could look like her.

Now she's lost weight and dyed her hair.

I am overweight.

Curvy girls are still overweight. I don't get why someone would pretend otherwise.

I may be curvy, but I'm curvy *because* I'm overweight.

Definitely. Even though I strongly oppose impossible beauty standards being imposed on women rationally (and ethically)
it's still extremely hard to not judge myself by them,
because I've grown up in a society where people are absolutely indoctrinated into it.

Results in a real cognitive dissonance.

Same here. I don't even like having a 'womanly' body.

I agree, but Renee's character struggled with losing weight and constantly called herself fat. She wasn't the only character to say she was fat, either.

I had a huge crush on Drew before she lost weight. Now she looks awkward.

yeah, I think Drew looks awkward, too.

Renee's character DID look good, whether she thought so or not, IMH>

I agree, and I was sad to find out Renee lost the weight really fast after she was done shooting.

Renee looks good no matter what though :) I was never big fan of Drew, but though she naturally looked better before. anyway, I'm starting to repeat myself though.

Renee was so mortified by the Bridget Jones role that she began working out to remove every inch of fat off her. Now she is incredibly thin.

Anyway if you are familiar with Bridget Jones (the book) and you know her actual weight, she actually is only 9 stone which is about 55 kg. That is not even that big :?:

55 kg = roughly 121 lbs. No, that is not all that big.
