Settle, it's just a silly advertisement. It's meant as a tongue in cheek look at how people mis-represent themselves online. Just like boo is saying about the women he's come across.

Yes and I just bet you're not overweight etc ie these aren't sensitive subjects for you

We can all think something's 'just a joke' or silly when it doesn't affect us personally

Everyone's got an Achilles Heel though so let's hear what yours is and press your buttons a few times and see how
blase you are about it

Come on, tell us what upsets you then we'll have a few jokes about it - all tongue in cheek of course!

That ad is a crass joke at the expense of an Aspie male stereotype

...and you've posted it on an Asperger board

So what's the story here? You look down on Aspie males like the male in that ad or what?

Nessa,

1- "Obese" is a medical term to describe the very overweight like Emaciated for the very underweight.

Not being attracted to obese =/= being disrespectful to obese.

2- I saw your face pic, I personally don't think you're hideous per se.

3- For nutjobs, I wasn't referring to mental health conditions, all those 'nutjobs' I've encountered were totally mentally healthy and functional, they're nut due to their nasty creepy personality and way of thinking.

Despite all this I still seem to have managed to have more relationship success than you!

Well, good for you.

Come and live in the middle east and let's see if you can get much success in having FWB-like relationships, the way you like.

So perhaps being a decent person is the main criteria necessary to get a relationship?

Of course it is, since why I failed with many of them because they weren't decent.

I see the word Obese as insulting

Don't use words like 'nutjob' - it's highly insulting and indicates that you have prejudice towards people with mental health problems if you'd use it as a term of insult

Give me a 'nutjob' over a 'normal' (as you aspire so desperately to be!) any day!

I could use some stereotyping language towards you and you'd be the first to report me!

You and sandra saw my post offensive because you wanted to see it so.

So what should I do to not sound offensive and judemental? To date people I am not physically attracted to? I am saying what I am commonly finding there.

And btw those I find extremely hideous-looking always look that way by their own will (grotesque plastic facial and body suregeries, over over exaggerated make up, 20+ piercings on face ....etc).

As for the nut job... whatever, I was clearly not referring to mental health problems by this term (hence why I used the term creep too).

To me, 'nutjob' is an insulting term for a person who isn't mentally stable

Why use the term if it's not what you mean?

That's what NTs do all the time - change the meanings of words to suit themselves

Saying you clearly weren't referring to mental health problems implies to me that you seem to forget this is a board for people
with ASD's ie those who take meanings literally

I'd remind yourself of the Aspergers diagnosis every so often - you might be able to make your act a bit more authentic

Obese *is* insulting!

It originates from the latin "obesus" which means having eaten until fat. You have no way of knowing if someone has reached a certain weight because of over eating, or because of medical reasons. I was over weight for years and I am certain as a result of the anti-depressants I took, as my dietary intake is not that different.

It is also highly insensitive to point this out in a forum, where you know there are women who are both overweight, and are on dating websites. Saying words like "nut jobs" is equally disrespectful. Funny how some people are quick to jump on Nessa in other threads, if she so just as slightly implies something more controversial, but when it is the other way round, people just hide under their rocks.

no, it was offensive because you intended it to be offensive. there was no other way to take your words except as you expressed them. you intended to use hyperbolic and nasty language, and you got your point across very clearly.

it's quite interesting that you think so little of women on dating sites. i wonder what they think of you, considering that you are in the same boat?

Obese is a medical term used as a category for the BMI scale.

And a cow is just a farm animal but the word is still used as an insult; it's the intention behind the word that
makes the difference in how it is received

I hear you.

And is Boo a medic by any chance? And did he use the term indicating he is worried about their health, or was he insulting???

Don't come in to teach me linguists, especially latin derived words. Don't try to be smart either. We are all sufficiently clever here to know the difference.

Exactly and in this context, the word 'obese' was used in the context of a sentence also containing the words 'hideous' and 'nutjob'
ie he was basically insulting women on dating sites

If a person is secure and happy in themself they usually have no reason to needlessly insult others

Those that do have 'issues' ie they usually feel very inadequate hence they insult others to make themselves feel superior
The trouble is it doesn't work as nice people will make a mental note of the nasty attitude and not want to bother
with the person so it's a bad strategy unless you just want to interact with other nasty types

I feel really strongly about the 'nutjob' term more than anything else as when you call people out on it they invariably say they didn't mean it in the context of mental illness but what other meaning can the term possibly have??

you did not "explain" it in such a way that made it less of an insult to women on dating sites. your best explanation called it a "rant", which seems to be the case. i guess you can see that people can easily tell that your rant was not really an objective characterisations of dating sites, but rather it was an emotional response to something.

you must know that it was not a kind thing to say, considering the large number of people on WrongPlanet who frequent dating sites that are neither "very obese", nor "extremely hideous", nor "sexy but nut job". your rant is fundamentally inaccurate, which makes it seem particularly meanspirited.

Note how I only quoted and commented on that one bit you said. I'm not here to justify what Boo said. Nor am I trying to be smart because I am smart.

Ok hyperlexian, it was a poorly thought rant, yes.

I deeply apologize to anyone who felt targeted and insulted by this post, in particular sandra and nessa.

And I never knew obese can be considered an offensive term.

I don't think less of people who are overweight.

But I do think less of people who do nasty plastic surgeries (for no medical reasons) to their faces and nasty personalities.
