Tarantella, what was your friend's response regarding generalizations (based on observation) again? Like saying "most women prefer tall men" - "most men don't like fat women"..etc.

Whoever said anything about a job? It's just SOP when making a claim, you back it up with evidence. It certainly makes you look evasive and lacking in credibility when you make grandiose statments and then refuse to back them up, especially when at this point you've doubtlessly expended more effort rebuffing me than it would have taken you to actually come up with some supporting evidence for your assertions, especially if they're as obvious as you claim. If you have actually sent something to Alex, like you say, then it wouldn't even cost you time and effort, as you've already done the hard part. Further, your stock response to people who make claims about you is to demand evidence, and yet when the shoe is on the other foot, you refuse, so we can add hypocritical to the list. Notice that I'm always ready with a link or an example when I make an assertion, especially about someone; that's because when I demand a cite from someone, it's because I want the chance to demonstrate that they're working off faulty information or ignorance, where as you just seem to want to shut people up with demands you know full well most people wont meet. Again, it reinforces the idea that this whole thing is really about shutting down opinions you don't like, rather than any more noble goal.

Alex might drop in once or twice a year, it's highly unlikely that he knows or cares. However, I can tell you from experience that the mods really don't like it when you argue with them in the alert thread, they all get auto-PMed every time someone posts there, and it makes them cranky and predisposed against you when you keep paging them to argue a point in there. Also, if you're going to make that kind of accusation, you really need to go into it point by point and walk them through the posts, highlighting the bits that you think show the pattern that you're trying to prove, and that's better done through PM than out in the open, for a variety of reasons. If you just throw it in the alert thread, someone's going to glance at it, and unless a violation jumps of the page at them, they're going to opt to not get involved. I've managed to pursue some fairly complicated complaints against people who don't break the rules per se unless you look at their posts over a long period and see the pattern of provocation and retaliation, and though it can be done. it's not easy.

I appreciate your advise. I've actually made all of my observations and I'm not going to pursue the matter much more in this venue - there's a lot on my plate. I put it in the moderator thread so I was sure all of the moderators would see it. This is the last part of that exchange.

Here's what I wonder, where does a person draw the line between someone complaining about their romantic life, and someone going on a sexist tirade? I feel that people should be allowed to vent, though full-on misogynistic rants, or threads that devolve into name-calling and mudslinging, should be locked.

those are the examples i provided to alex. i included threads that contained sexist posts/comments as well as some of the threads that have happened in the last few weeks that are specifically discussions on the issue of the moderation of sexism on wrongplanet and the fact that it is currently not treated the same way by the moderators as other hate speech as per alex's instructions. and no, i am not going to go through and pick out every single instance and comment from every single thread for you, i think you can manage to read through them yourself if you care to.

i will single out the last link however, as it is to one specific post that was made in the thread i created weeks ago about the treatment of women on wrongplanet that i thought made a particularly important point worth considering about the voices we're not hearing in these discussions, the voices of women who have been scared/disgusted away from this forum because of the hate speech. think how much richer and fuller this community could be if those women felt safe and welcome enough to participate, too--isn't that what we all want?

Not sexist: "I AM SO f*****g TIRED OF GETTING TURNED DOWN ALL THE TIME. This last girl didn't even tell me why she didn't want to see me again, she just stopped answering my texts."

Sexist: "I AM SO f*****g TIRED OF THESE b*****s TURNING ME DOWN ALL THE TIME. They just cut you off like the inconsiderate c***s they are. I treat them great and they hate me for it, next time I'll be an a**hole because it's what girls want."

Not sexist: ":( Sorry that happened. Rejection sucks and it's why I don't even try anymore. Though to be fair it's not like anyone has to tell you why the don't want to date you."

Sexist: "You probably treated her too well, it's what you get for being a nice guy. They just want to date a**holes. Rich a**holes. Rich a**holes with fancy cars GOD I HATE THOSE b*****s TOO."

Not sexist: "I think it's rude when someone stops texting and won't tell you why."

Scary: "You should show up at her house and stand outside her window till she comes out and talks to you."

Not sexist: "I AM DOOMED TO BE CELIBATE AND LONELY FOREVER"

Not sexist: "Women keep turning me down because I don't have a car."

Sexist: "Women won't date a guy who hasn't got a car."

Questions?

I don't see the point of banning offensive posts unless it gets personal.

I've noticed this post there:

namaste wrote:

and once they get it they kick the womens butt
they could rape their own kith and kin
and molest any unassuming women, kid or girl
to satisfy their lust

but the whole deal should be that women have nothing to satisfy themself
they should be raping
men can always masturbate and satisfy themself or use a whore but
why rape someone forcefully

 She beats all the sexist men on WP altogether!! The sexism award should be handed to her, hands down.

It's about the fact that the anti-sexism rule isn't enforced, per Alex's instruction.

It is sexist, but she comes from India and the news keeps reporting such attitudes like she describes are endemic in certain parts of India. That's me trying not to be racist, but possibly failing.

Something is socially f****d up there that's for sure but no matter how endemic it seems I hardly believe it would reach a majority of population - but I wonder if she also meant her father, her brothers and her fiancee too.

This logic can justify a lot of sexism then, ie. "Women are gold diggers" , "oh, I live in Las Vegas, it's endemic there".

We shouldn't discount the fact that this is a forum for people on the spectrum either, and people on it are affected in a wide variety of ways. Some people can recognize a sexist statement or belief on its face, while others may not understand why what they said was the result of skewed thinking. It's important to establish that a person is legitimately trolling rather than legitimately confused.

EDIT: Also, I don't even slightly blame Namaste for thinking the way she does. India has a MASSIVE problem with sexual assault.

It's still sexiest what she said and should be treated as such, according to the opinions of many people on the forum. Ignoring sexiest remarks from a female member, would in itself be sexiest. You would then be giving special privileges to female members of the forum.

This has nothing to do with the poster's gender. Hurtloam was just providing a possible explanation as to why the namaste might believe what she did by taking her cultural background into consideration?no mention of namaste's gender whatsoever. She was not justifying the sexist remarks, either.
