Quite true I have done that on many occasions with women I am friends with as I knew it would be unwanted. And tbh sometimes they knew and I think they respect the fact you already knew not to attempt anything.

Sorry, but thats absurd! I have a number of female acquaintances that i have nooo interest remotely of being physical with, i have also had very good looking acquaintances again i have no interest of getting physical with. Im not attracted to people in that way of viewing them on their outside features. Compatible personalities and intellect, honesty, are at the top of the list for me anything outside of that is shallow and doomed for short term failure when talking about the physical!

Why were you not interested in the good looking ones? Did they have crappy personalities?

No not at all, as i have been attracted to people i wouldnt have initially perceived as highly attractive, Once i get to know their personalities i do often find myself being attracted to them if compatible to many of my outward way deep thoughts of philosophies etc, attraction again is rather subjective. Even NT women i know have married men they weren't physically attracted to, but their personalities shone through :)

Answers like this are confusing. So what you are saying is that you were attracted to these women and would stay friends if they wanted to have a platonic relationship, but if they were open to more you would go for it?

I am so happy that you clarified that for me, Mr. K. Now I remember!

If I see the women and I get sexual thoughts then no can't be friends. But I can be friends with a woman and I have several.

But I suppose other way round I am not attracted but they are to me and want to have some *fun* with me. Not sure I will say no :S

So to sum up yes as long as there is no sexual attraction by either party.

I am actually trying to decide if the girl I met as friends the other day fancies me or not . As we wanted to meet as we going to be playing WoW expansion together and been chatting about games and stuff for ages. I was getting the hint that she wants friends with benefits . Well I'll find out soon enough she coming to my house for a gaming night in a couple of week and there will be drinking and just me and her. Hope I'm wrong don't want to hurt her feelings and ruin a potential friendship or worst case do something stupid 8O .

I wouldn't get drunk - that's a big turnoff - and you don't remember what happened.

I've heard "nookie," too.

A "noogie" could also be when:

1. You rub the top of someone's head with your knuckle hard.

2. You do the same thing to some other part of the body (but it's usually the top of the head, though).

I also have some memory of "giving a noogie" meaning giving someone a "hickey."

That's what it is! The knuckle/head thingy!

Yeah, I'm confused as well. How are we defining Platonic?

A) you have never been and never will be attracted to your friend

B) you have a friend you are attracted to, but won't do anything about that attraction

C) you have an acquaintance that you are not attracted to, but you are not close friends

I don't personally think that B really is a Platonic relationship. I'm not overly keen on the idea of my male friends jerking off behind my back. That's not Platonic.

I don't think C counts because it's not a friendship, it's just acquaintances.

To me, a Platonic relationship is a relationship without sex, making out, anything remotely amorous or erotic. Not even amorous intentions expressed in writing.

There could be sexual attraction--but it's not expressed, and it is sort of forbidden, so to speak, for it to be expressed.

Whenever there are amorous things done (including something like a love letter). the relationship loses its Platonic-ness.

It's probably my almost nonexistent, strange sense of humor, but I got a laugh out of "the idea of my male friends jerking off behind my back"--I just kind of assume that SWM NTs will jerk off to pretty much anything depending on the mood. I mean no offense to the guys on this forum... several of my high school acquaintances were on the wrestling and football team and I heard more than I wanted to on several occasions.

But yes, I agree with you hurtloam: I don't count option B as Platonic either. :)

It depends on the REASON why the guy won't "do anything" about his attraction to the lady.

If he desires a virtuous relationship, then it's definitely Platonic.

If he desires something, and the woman doesn't, then that's sort of a gray area. I would still call it Platonic, because of ACTIONS, rather than THOUGHTS.

Others might not...because of the THOUGHTS. I wouldn't argue vociferously should such an opinion be expressed.

Well, i do apologize if thats what was thought, i thought i was pretty clear. As i mentioned i am attracted to intellect, honesty and deep philosophies when in conversation. These are the things that give me the feelings of wanting anything beyond platonic everyday friendships. looks are not the priority for myself. Even if these individuals didn't click with me in the above mentioned ( intellect, Philosophies, honesty etc), of course im still friendly with them but it wont go any further than that. I dont know how else i could explain it, as i think i have pretty much repeated what i have already mentioned in my other posts on here.

As defined by the Oxford dictionary and not some made up adjectives...

""ADJECTIVE - Platonic

(Of love or friendship) intimate and affectionate but not sexual:
their relationship is purely platonic"".

Intimate doesn't necessarily mean sexual or physical, maybe its an intimate conversation, maybe they feel comfortable enough to talk to me about things that they wouldn't share with everyone and visa versa.

I haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if this has already been stated, but yes. Fully long-lasting platonic relationships between men and women without sexual interest between either of them can certainly happen. I'm lesbian--attracted to only women. And I had a gay male friend I'd been friends with for 13 years--only attracted to men. So... yeah. As long as you're gay with a gay friend, it's possible. XD

Can't say the same for my male friends who aren't gay, though. Most all of them have said they had a crush on me at one point or another, which only made things awkward... I clicked "yes" though, because I have had very long lasting friendships with guys in the past, and they were totally innocent.

Yes, but if you are gay then the guys know they have no chance. The straight ones all had a crush on you. That's telling me the friendships wouldn't be platonic if it was up to the men.
