Should I be disappointed that my gf makes fancy dinners?

It would be great if you can get some variety in there, but... There are many other reasons a couple might have trouble doing joint activities...work, kids, illness, injury, school, jail, etc. Even if you reduce the cooking time, it is no guarantee for the future.

Present the problem to her and let her think about it. Don't expect an immediate solution. Nor even an immediate discussion.

But, I hope the two of you can work it out.

Hell no! When my gf makes me fancy dinners it's the highlight of my day.

Sounds extremely boring if that's the only thing she does everyday.

I'd rather just cook me a burger myself

A fancy dinner every day? Fantastic.

Crack open a bottle of wine and try not to put on too much weight.

It can get boring-----because "fancy dinners" take away from my TV or tablet time.

Fancy dinners also "put me on the spot." I'd rather eat the Neanderthal way than have to gracefully cut my steak.

You’d be welcome anytime you’re in the vicinity (Covid restrictions notwithstanding)… I can whip up some cave paintings in no time.

But it takes so long though. I guess I never put that much stuck into putting so much time in something that is going to be consumed quickly.

It might be some type of eating disorder as well.

Yeah, that's the other reason why I like her cooking. More me time. More time to surf the web or play Assassin's Creed 2.

Late to this conversation, but I find this strange. I home cook almost everything I eat. I can't stand the overwhelming taste of processed food. There's a chemical tang that I don't like and your girlfriend might hate processed food too.

However, what I cook usually only takes about 20 minutes to an hour at most. Fajitas are so quick to cook for example, or a chilli, or a curry. Sometimes I use a slow cooker and pop all the ingredients in the thing in the morning and when I'm finished work I've got a nice meal already cooked.

My Dad doesn't cook often, but when he does it's an elaborate affair like this. Chicken marinated hours before cooking. He cooks Thai food better than in any restaurant I've been to. But he does these meals once or twice a month, not every day.

I don't think it's weird for you to want quicker meals and to do another activity. On nights when I know I'm going out I often eat leftovers from a meal I batch cooked and put in the freezer. Leftover curry is better than day 1 curry imo.

Maybe you can find recipes online for things that only take 20 minutes to cook and she could try them out. Take an interest rather than just telling her, no, here have a yucky TV dinner instead.

With uber eats and other delivery services you can get restaurant quality dinners delivered piping hot to your home within 30min. It's not necessarily fast food.

Well I guess I just feel it comes off as kind of pretentious to make fancy elaborate dinners all the time, if that makes sense?

Maybe this is a good analogy... Let's say your gf wanted to dress up really nice every date almost, like as if she was going to a wedding, or to a big awards ceremony, or something like that. And it took her two hours to get ready each time, even though all you are doing is hanging out at her place or your place and not even going out, and you've been dating for a few months. Wouldn't it get kind of to where you were thinking it was not necessary to spend that much time getting ready, when that time can be put towards spending time with the boyfriend on the date, so the date isn't so rushed as a result afterwards? Isn't it kind of pretentious if you are not even going out and not even out to impress a big crowd?

If that makes sense as an anology?
