It's not about thinking you are awesome its about feeling confident. I have every reason to be boo hoo poor me. But I chose not to be. I don't let external factors affect my sense of well being. If it is raining and I am stuck in traffic I still sing along to the radio. Dwelling on how bad things are changes nothing, except that it makes you miserable.

Forget the Boo-Hoo crap---it will only add unneeded moisture to your shirt.

It's fun for me to guess peoples' ages. But it's pretty much a no-no early on to try to guess a woman's age.

You can't, or rather shouldn't, talk about another adult's weight. The fat/skinny/whatever person encounters mirrors on a daily basis and is 100% aware that they are fat/skinny/whatever.

Yeah...I look in the mirror every day. I weigh myself. I'm 5 foot 5 and 190 lbs. I gotta lose weight!

eliminate ALL refined carbs/"white" foods from your diet and it will happen with alacrity. but you will feel like dookie for the first few days at least [catabolic stage of weight loss]. I did it, I know this from experience.

I tried but I got sick of eating nothing but fish and fruit (also it's expensive to eat fish 3 times per day). Seemingly none of the fast food places in the city serve food that matches your description.

the problem with fast food is that it leads to fast fat. slow food is the way to go.

I lost quite a bit of weight in the past by cutting out fat, and lots of simple sugars. Eat more complex carbs, including low sugar cereals and the like, and not a lot of meat. Pretty cheap diet as well.

What about a diet of Chinese style noodles slow cooked with chicken in a rice cooker? Would that be fattening as well?

that is carb-rich. any kind of pasta except for shirataki noodles has a comparatively rapid metabolism in the body meaning the body stores any un-burned calories of such as body fat. if you ate only shirataki noodles [negative calories] and a good protein, you would lose weight for sure.

So that's why GF is so fat. She eats noodles with chicken all the time. Perhaps I could get her to switch to shirataki noodles (and me too when she's cooking for me) but I haven't been able to find them in the supermarket.

Her idea is to substitute our breakfast and lunch with blended juices but my mum says that would be too high in fructose and calories. True?

Mum also says GF is retaining water. What is the cure for that?

I am no expert, but I had a water retention problem also which was basically a systemic inflammation response caused by too acidic a body chemistry, caused in turn by eating too many refined carbs with not enough micronutrients as found in fresh veggies and fruits. the only way out of that, is to stop eating "white" foods [white rice, any kind of sugar, pasta, gravies, white potatoes, corn, grains in general. oats are ok in small amounts, eat too many and you'll start resembling a horse [humor ;) ]. seriously, the shirataki noodles I found on amazon.com. they are not exactly cheap. so supplement such with things like brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth.
when I stopped eating the Standard American Diet [SAD] and made salad the main dish of the day, no more refined carbs/white foods that I mentioned, 99% of my inflammation/water retention went away. it is the truth!
BY ALL MEANS avoid ALL fruit juices! they are just concentrated SUGAR. sugar is BAD for the body, the #1 acidifier of body chemistry which damages internal tissues which causes the liver to generate more cholesterol to patch the resultant arterial lesions which narrows/hardens the arteries which raises blood pressure which in turn causes more arterial wall damage resulting in liver making yet more cholesterol, in a vicious circle. the FDA said dietary cholesterol [from things such as eggs] is not as much a concern as is the cholesterol your own liver makes in excess, caused by the aforementioned over-acidic body chemistry.

Yes, I think her noodles and chicken diet is deficient in micronutriants. How about I tell her to eat whole fruit instead of fruit juice for breakfast and lunch and for dinner she can have shirataki noodles with her chicken instead of normal?

I'd say unless you enjoy competing for scraps, it's game over at 25. That's about the age my dating prospects went from dismal to nonexistent. College age girls consider you an old man, and the few mid-20's girls who've managed to stay attractive are all taken.

Note this doesn't necessarily apply in non-westernized countries. A typical, slim, mid 30's American man can easily date attractive, early 20's girls in Southeast Asia. Much more attractive than what even his 22 year old self could get in the States. However, men still have a shelf life overseas. I'd say 40 is about the oldest you can experience legit mutual attraction. Beyond that, all a man has are his memories. They better be good.

great idea  :wtg: mebbe do it along with her so she will have good company and social reinforcement? mebbe add a salad now and then? I memorized this acronym for better nutrition, you don't have to follow the whole thing but it is food for thought nonetheless [a pun ;) ]-
GBOMBS-
Greens
Beans
Onions
Mushrooms
Berries
Seeds

just put the majority of those things in a salad, leaven it with modest amounts of dressing and other small garnishes of your choice, and you got a winner there.
