By the way, what do you mean by a decent sense of humor? I guess it's the word "decent" I'm a little bit insecure about what you mean.

I was sleeping when you arrived in the Bar. But I heard a sweet voice, and decided to amble in here.

I'm thinking you would like "Gloria" by Laura Branigan. Or "What's love got to do with it?" by Tina Turner.

I bet you're doing lots of Genius things within that Project.

I was watching "28-Up, Born in the USSR" earlier.

You are right, Kraftie. I like Tina Turner a lot. My favorite bands at the moment are R.E.M., and the Gin Blossoms, although even those are getting to 'classic rock' at this point. While I mean to keep up with newer music, it is a lot of effort. My daughter introduced me to Owl City, and I though they were pretty alright. If I need to work, or cheer up though, give me 80's flashback stations on youtube!

I hope my project turns out well, too, thank you. I am illustrating a book for intermediate readers. It has a graphic novel style page at the end of each chapter. It should be out on ebooks around Thanksgiving. Here's hoping it takes off and jump-starts my new career! :D
I hope I don't miss our agreed happy hour this evening! With any luck I will see you then.

REM as classic rock! How sad, but true. Monster was the first album I bought, but even that is getting old. And Murmur and Chronic Town must seem ancient to kids in their teens now.

Kraft, check this song out--an obvious lift of Laura Brannigan's "Gloria," with hysterically arch, ironic, even sad lyrics (especially contrasted with those of "Gloria"):

Yes, Highlama, I am afraid R.E.M.'s album Eponymus came out 28 years ago. Ouch. The Gin Blossoms are "newer" by a bit. New Miserable Experience came out just in 1992, but No Chocolate Cake was just released in 2010. Woohoo. So many moody, grungy bands of the 1990's lost at least one band member to untimely death, it is a wonder that any are still recording. :(

Eponymous is wonderful. I could listen to "So. Central Rain" or "Driver 8" on repeat forever.

Too true about 90s bands in general. I am glad my favorites, Pavement and the High Llamas, have lost no members. Maybe the saddest death, to me, is Mary Hansen of Stereolab. Hit by a bike at 36! How pointless.

A drink in memory of lost musicians.

Here, here. A drink to absent musicians indeed, although it had better be one drink for all, or else we will spending the night in the bar utterly senseless. :hic:

Froya: I meant, and should have been more explicit about this, that having a decent quantity of humor is decent to me. I wasn't making some sort of moral statement at all.

My tastes in music tend to be very simple. When I'm driving in my car, I tend to listen to 60s music.

I have positive memories of listening to the end-of-year Top 100s of the late 60s on my transistor.

I got away from the social whirl that way.

No no, it's just me being too suspicious, I have that tendency. But thank you!

Yes, excellent musical diversity, and free Zems for anybody whose senses can't handle a specific type. No 1812 Overture for me, please. Which 60's artists do you like best, Kraftie?

I like the usual: Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, British Invasion, Girl Groups, Motown.

Very cool. I like almost any music that doesn't have super-high pitched sopranos or sudden, loud sounds. YOu pick the next song. We always have drinks but, does anyone want snacks?

This Bar had gourmet selections, as a matter of fact, for reasonable prices. All currencies accepted. An eminent Chef oversees the menu. All kinds of fare, ranging from open roast beef sandwiches, to Bouillabaisse.

"Foxey Lady" by Jimi Hendrix is on now.

I try to avoid threads this long, but maybe I need to get over that? Especially now that I see where I can jump straight to the last page. I only had to read one page behind.

I like music. I play guitar and sing, so I can do cover tunes. Maybe one day, if I'm really desperate, I can start playing on the street. It's just that it's pretty dangerous these days. I'll imagine especially down here in Montgomery.

I've always loved REM. STP. Gin Blossoms. Pretty much the whole nineties.
