Too far away from family, and there's no way in hell I'd be able to sit on a plane that long. :?

I thought most people in the Netherlands spoke English as a second language.

Good answer! I have entertained notions of procuring the services of a prostitute, but I am too neurotic and timid to actually do it.

For me it's more a matter of never having been to Nevada before. Stupid baptist Texas...

You have such low standards as to consider prostitutes? *shakes head in dismay*

Better a legal, regulated brothel than a street walker.

I would NEVER procure the services of a street-walker as the chances of contracting a social disease is extremely high, at least vis-a-vis the population writ large.

However, were I to go through with it, I would go with an escort. As they are kept off the streets and their prices are higher, the riff-raff including intravenous drug users are essentially weeded out from the clientele, resulting in a far, far lower risk of contracting a social disease. Add to that that the women aren't controlled by pimps or prostituting themselves for money to purchase drugs with (usually).

I heard that too, MissConstrue. However, I heard the law is not rigourously enforced. Furthermore, most sex toys were apparently re-marketed as "back massagers" and the like.

That's weird. I don't see why they would outlaw sex toys, but strike down the infamous sodomy law.

That was because the sodomy law was overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States, thus nullifying the state law while the law making sexual devices contraband hasn't been legally contested on constitutional grounds yet.

Certain 'toys' are okay in Texas, others that are rubber, or sculpted (or molded) to look like appendages, are illegal.

Social disease? WOW, that's a term that you just don't hear to often, like self-pollution!

But it would be fun to party overseas!

Same reason prop8 was so popular, goddamn mormons.

In Utah (Mormon Central), the state at one point had a 'Porn Czar' whose job was to try to rid the state of pornography.

Also, Idaho (the state with the second highest per capita concentration of Mormons), had a law making sodomy (oral and anal sex) punishable by a term of imprisonment of no less than five years and up to life. It was overturned when the state sodomy laws were ruled unconstitutional a few years ago.

They are saving us, you see.

If we used those toys we'd go to hell, so these kind gracious religious folk are making them illegal so we wouldn't use them.

There are not one or two but three epic fails in there.
1) There is no God or hell or sin so the point is moot.
2) People will still use what's illegal, they just do it in secret so they don't get caught.
3) The above causes more violent crime.

Wheee! My head is spinning.

The religious nuts don't seem to take into account that if their notion of salvation were real, that outlawing the use of sex toys would have no effect on the person's salvation. Either a) the use of sex toys wouldn't send one to hell to begin with or b) if someone doesn't use them but the sole reason for not doing so is because it is illegal, that wouldn't make them good anyways.

I don't believe in the hocus pocus known as "religion" but even if one were to give credence to the theology espoused by these people, it would STILL be complete garbage.

I have read a lot of older texts so I often use "social disease" as a gentle euphemism. I wonder how many other 28-year-olds use the term "social disease" in conversation?
